About this listen

What do you do when everyone around you has what you want but can’t have?

For Sophie Lefebvre, the answer was simple - accept the position as governess to the pompous Earl of Wycliff’s sister, Gertrude. Rude, arrogant and absorbed with his wealth, his presence is a hard task to endure, but far better than the pain of watching others have what she cannot.

Claveston St. John, Earl of Wycliff, was smitten the moment he laid eyes on Lady Tate’s companion at the wedding of his good friend, William Pierce. When in jest he offered her a job as his sister’s governess, he never imagined she would accept. However, now that she has, he is determined to win her. However, that is easier said the done. How can he win a woman who cares nothing for his trappings? What else does he have to entice her to consider him a match? When Sophie’s employment and freedom are threatened, Claveston knows that he is the only one who can help her.

Is there any hope for these opposites attracting or are their differences too great?

I liked the virtual voice!

This gentle story was good and relaxing. The characters were believeable. I recommend this one.

Dull, uninteresting

Dull story with little to engage the reader. The characters were very flat and did not have much growth. Story was dull without much action or reasons to feel for the characters. Story needs fleshed out and characters need personalities.

AI narration was better then expected but not great either, tone was flat and monotonous, made the story a but harder to follow.

The story was shallow and the narration monotone

I was intrigued by the AI narration but soon learned that it was monotonic which made it very difficult to follow. I often was unsure who was speaking since all the characters sounded the same. And the main character was supposed to French and her accent was remarked on often in the beginning of the story, yet it was British and sounded like all the others. As for the story, it appeared very shallow with little to no character development. I did not “feel” for any of them, though possibly that was partially due to the horrible narration. I stopped reading with only 7 minutes left because I just didn’t care for the book (why I lasted that long is a true mystery). Very disappointing, though it has made me so appreciative of good narrators and how they influence not only the enjoyment of the listen, but also depth of the story. I will not waste my time on an AI read story again. I do NOT recommend.
