Acerca de esta escucha

The seventh novel in the acclaimed Sean Stranahan mystery series: Scarecrows are appearing in the cliffs above the Smith River in Montana, and state investigator Harold Little Feather is trying to discover the culprit leaving the hay figures in the cliffs, with signs painted that read "No Smith River Mine - Not on My Watch." The event is related to a copper mine project that threatens the river, but his investigation takes an ominous turn when a little girl claims that a scarecrow chased her in the night.

At the same time, Sean Stranahan and his friend "Rainbow" Sam Meslik have been contracted as guides to float a party down the river, which includes the manager of the mine project and the president of "Save Our Smith", a grassroots organization devoted to stopping the project.

Both men grew up on the Smith on neighboring ranches. When a dead body is found in the park, it's revealed that the two have a shared history that runs much deeper and darker than their opposing viewpoints.

The character development and the outdoors , especially the way fly fishing weaves its way through the overall plot. The main characters (Sean, Martha, Harold and Sam) are what bring me back to the series.

The story line

McCafferty's books get better with each one, and A Death in Eden did not disappoint. A great listen that ended too quickly.

Best one so far

This is likely my favorite in the series thus far I even liked the resemblance to the movie alluded to early on in the story—although it did creep me out a bit. And I was nervous about the outcome. I think that’s all I can say. Well done.

Best yet

Great story, really enjoyed it! I am sorry the series is coming to an end after the next book. I hope Keith McCafferty writes some more.

Liked the river adventure and the environmental aspect. Also liked the Native American topic and its inclusion. Liked the old Indian ways discussion. Liked the conflict of governmental laws over land, hunting, and fishing.

...and better than ever. Although this is a Sean Stranahan mystery, it is really a Harold Littlefeather story, and one that is a genuine nail biter. I agree with the previous reviewer who was going to give up on the series after the Hemingway story. There are parts that are taut, gripping and even gruesome, and parts that are light and amusing. McCafferty is back in the groove, and I anxiously await the next story.

Sean, Martha and Harold are back...

The rugged river setting was beautifully described. However, almost too many characters were involved. The main ones were likable and easy to champion. Lots of rough stuff going on.

Good wilderness mystery

After being generally just tired of Sean Stranahan and his cardboard women I found Death in Eden to be a surprising delight. The story is relevant and exciting, we get to know Harold Little Feather better, and the relationships between main characters, Sean and Martha in particular, are more sympathetically and subtly drawn. I just loved this book! It’s longer than the previous books, which I appreciated, and the narration is spot on.

Just as I was ready to bail on this series..

After the Hemingway story, I was not sure I wanted to continue with this series. Glad I gave McCafferty another chance. This story is entertaining from start to finish. Looking forward to the next one.
