That which does not kill you... only makes them try harder...

When the body of a celebrity author, recently returned to the Isle of Skye seemingly to live out his remaining days, is found on Staffin Beach, D.I. Duncan McAdam is left with a mystery to solve.

The circumstances of his last days along with his death prove to be a mystery. How did this man meet his end on the sands of An Corran Beach at dawn? The case generates a great deal of interest in the media, putting a spotlight on Duncan and his team. Little does Duncan know how many people have been keeping secrets on the island. Secrets that some thought—and many hoped—would never come into the light.

As Duncan uncovers a darker side to his beloved Misty Isle, he finds the investigation coming closer to home. The life on Skye he escaped from all those years ago may not have been quite what he thought it was. As the investigation develops, Duncan begins to question not only who he can trust but also to what extent his own experiences have been manipulated by the deeds of the past.

What is it that happened on The Rock all those years ago that no one dares to speak of?

A Dead Man on Staffin Beach is the fifth book in the #1 bestselling Misty Isle series from the multi-million selling crime writer, J M Dalgliesh, the author of the Hidden Norfolk and Dark Yorkshire books.

Excellent story with a fabulous narration. This is a brilliant series. Angus King is the best!

Another in a great series

Love this series and the complexity of the character development. I had no clue where the story was going and enthralled the whole time

Gripping with excellent narration as always

The Isle of Skye makes a beautiful background for this interesting development in the lead’s life while also providing an intriguing mystery to solve. Angus King gives his always top-quality performance. More please.

Very engaging mystery with plenty of character development

I love murder mystery series and this one is now my favorite. Perhaps because of my fascination with Scotland and the fact that the narrator has a Scottish accent. But also because it is so atmospheric and the characters are well drawn, and I’m rooting for them.

What’s not to love

I’ve really been enjoying this series and getting to know Duncan, seeing him traverse his past and try to move forward with better habits/introspection.
I like when detective stories are believable, which most of this series has been; this one not so much. The only other one in this series which was a stretch of the imagination was Dead Man of Stoor, but this is a close second.

SPOILER ALERT

A small Scottish Island couldn’t possibly have corruption to this extent. So that disappointed me.
Also there was an error, because in a previous book Grace said Katie the journalist was her friend and in this one they acted like they didn’t know one another.

I’ve always liked Angus King’s narration, but he overly dramatized some moments in this for me.

I very much look forward to the next book, hope the plot is slightly more relatable!

Not his best work but still a great read

Listening to these stories makes me want to book a trip to the Isle of Skye!!

Another hit for Dalgleish and Angus King!!

Well narrated but story is too often a theme we’ve long heard before - without benefit of depth of surrounding characters- would prefer a good twist somewhere!

Decent story well told
