About this listen

Reluctant hit man Henry Thompson has fallen on hard times. His grip on life is disintegrating, his pistol hand is shaking, his body is pinned to his living room couch by painkillers - and his boss, Russian mobster David Dolokhov, isn't happy about any of it. So Henry is surprised when he's handed a new assignment: Keep tabs on a minor league baseball star named Miguel Arenas.

Henry has no pity for the slugger and the wicked gambling problem that got him in trouble, but he can't help liking the guy. After all, Henry used to be just like him, a natural-born ball player with a bright future. But that was long ago, before Henry did some guy a favor and ended up running for his life; before his girlfriend and buddies got gunned down by someone on his tail; before he agreed to buy his parents' safety with a life of violence.

When Miguel gets drafted by the Mets and is sent to the Brooklyn Cyclones, Henry must head back to New York, back to the place where all his problems began and where Henry might find a real reason to keep living - a reason that may just cost him his life.

Great trilogu

Wonderful narrator. Fantastic third part of a trilogy of wonderful crime fiction. Highly recommended. Don't forget to read Parts one and two.

A Dangerous Man is FANTASTIC!

Sorry this is ONLY a Trilogy! Didn't want this non-stop action thrill ride of a Series to end!
Unbelievable how a regular guys life can turn on a dime!
Guess we should all be aware for the seemingly
Impossible being possible!
I know I won't be taking things for granted as much!

great series

loved the series. You could feel the ending coming for a long time and I guess it was inevitable but still sad.

Are you kidding me

The 1st two of the books in the Henry Thompson series were pretty good, but this book was grueling. Not to mention that the narrator was horrible. Well let me be honest, after i sped up the narration speed, I was able to get through it a bit better, but when it came to the end, it made me want to scream. Moral of this review is, to only listen to the 1st two books in this series, because then at least you'll end things on a good note. If you waste your time listening to this book, you'll be just as disappointed, annoyed and frustrated as I am

Good ending to the series

I enjoyed the second book, but it was too dark for me to keep reading. Later I started this book and am glad I did. The unending killing at the end of the second book was not in this book.

Pretty Darn Good

This series was a good read. The main character you can’t help but just feel for!
The best way to describe this whole series? - Being in the wrong place at the wrong time your entire life!
The only critique I would have for the author going forward is to not spend so much time in each book explaining everything from the prior book to get the reader caught up. Lots of time and to many little “details” that could have been left out. Just the facts to help the reader understand or remember and move on!
All in all a good read.
The narrator did well. I think the way he read this book is the way it should of been read.

Very painful

I cannot understand how the character survived from the first book even with a poor story line.

Narrator is trash

So disappointed in the narration of this book. The dude sounds like he’s stuck in slow motion and his voice is comparable to a male Fran Drescher. Love the story, but this narrator is awful.

Great story. Terrible narration

Another great book by Charlie Huston that I have looked forward to. Unfortunately, the experience is spoiled by the terrible performance of Charlie Thurston whose overly animated storytelling like he is talking to a room of preschoolers is the most disappointing narration I have hear in a long time. Not sure I can make it through the rest of the book.

a Respectable effort, but not his best

when compared to 6 Bad Things, this one leaves a little to be desired. It's just not quite the exhilarating fast pace of his previous works but it's still plenty entertaining. There's some ambiguity in the ending, but there's really only one inescapable conclusion to be drawn. Pretty good stuff, just not his best stuff. Still well worth the price of admission. Oh and the narrator is very good too. He is a different voice than I am used to hearing for Henry, but he does a great job with voicing Russian accents, and there's plenty of Russians in this story who need voices.
