About this listen

Life held little joy for Celia Murray. Forced by poverty to leave her aunt, who had been her only source of love and warmth, Celia goes to the city to find a job. There she tries to make the best of her new home: a dreary boarding house.

Then everything changes! Celia receives an unexpected inheritance and sets about to make her dreams come true. She sends for her Aunt Hannah, and together they work a miraculous transformation on the old boarding house, making it into a place of warmth and laughter. Yet Celia struggles with a sense that there is something - or someone - missing.

Enter handsome Horace Stafford, minister of the mission chapel. At first Celia believes this is a man whose faith and compassion matches her own. But when a terrible misunderstanding comes between them, will Celia ever be able to confess, even to Horace, the deepest desire of her heart?

Good story but no more

As for me there are too much Bible topics. I would evaluate this story as good, clean, intelligent one. There is no astonishing performance, the scenario develops simply and expectedly, no sudden, impressive switch.

A Heartwarming Christian novel

Originally published in 1900 by Grace Livingston Hill and recorded in this century, the book has a timeless message of love for God and others shown in selfless service. It's a story of a young girl who depends on God for her needs and learns that He never fails. Cecilia is desperately poor living in a horrible boarding house. But the unimaginable happens and she gets an inheritance. How she uses it to help others and is rewarded 100 times over is the bulk of the book. How she learns hard lessons balances the story with shadows that make the blessing times show even brighter. There are a lot of Bible verses and some Christian poems and hymns read in appropriate places. And there is sweet romance, and a bit of humor too.
I guarantee a happy lump in your throat and glistening eyes as you listen to this sweet story packed with the gospel message.
I totally loved it.

Faith building

Nice wholesome story. Full of scripture. I like that one of the heroines struggles like I do.

A Beautiful I site full story

I hesitated in listening to this story. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it. A strong Christian theme. Opening the hearts of those that have faced challenges in their lives and their ability to turn to God and overcome adversity. I strongly recommend it.

Need more of Mrs Hill's books recorded!!

Reader was very good mostly. She needs a dictionary, though, and learn how to pronounce words. I love Grace Livingston Hill's books and am disappointed that there was only one out of the more than 50 books that she wrote.

PURPOSE:

GLH always wrote with the idea of helping young Christians grow in their faith, behavior and modesty of dress; and to reach others who had not yet accepted Christ as Lord. Admittedly they are old fashioned, but, God's Word has not changed. Even Christian youngsters in the 21st century must grapple with the chasm between fashion and modest attire. The story of this book, is interesting, if not the most gripping, of her stories. It demonstrates the subtle changes that the Lord makes over time to make us more like Him.

Absolutely love Grace Livingston Hill's books!

Grace Livingston Hill writes in such a way as to bring her characters to life. Her stories are uplifting, usually concerning family or a family type situation, with dramas and love and all sorts of interesting emotions. Just like real families, but better. Her books always leave me joyous.
