Acerca de esta escucha

As Britain settles into a short-lived peace, the characters of Pride and Prejudice pick up very nearly where the novel left off, in a new series of stories focused on love and family. Elizabeth Bennet finds the joy of her marriage and honeymoon are followed by the demands of becoming Mrs. Darcy, all while helping her shy new younger sister come out into society. Georgiana Darcy must deal with more suitors than she expected, when she fears nothing more than once again being persuaded to think she is in love with the wrong man.

I believe if Jane Austen were alive and willing to write a sequel. This would be it. I have read multiple remakes and sequels... but none have come close to until this one... I love it.

Very well written

First I would like to say I'm aware that this is not Jane Austin but someone making a story to follow her excellent book. So that being said there is a definite difference in writing style, that although in some cases lacking is not bad or in any way a let down. There were however several details and instances where a clear lack of knowledge of the ending of Pride and Prejudice shown. Specifically with how the book starts and several details regarding Mr. Bennet. Overall though I dont think it harms the story, but is definitely not necessary or could have been adjusted to more match the previous book. The story therefore I found quite enjoyable the characters well written though sometimes lacking in depth and the world enlargened. I would say the biggest problem I had was with the Narrator. Her performance wasnt really bad but definitely not good either. There were constance instances of her seemingly running out of breath and random volume changes in her voice. Although she did have an actual English accent, which I found nice, she never attempted to change her voice when speaking the different characters. Specifically when switch between Male and female, but the most annoying thing I found was the random sound of pages turning and what seemed to me to be a computer mouse clicking. She did however read with a good tempo and didnt mispronounce any words. The story definitely saved this Narrator as it was engaging and although sometimes lacking in depth, was very enjoyable and I will be reading the next book.

Very Good Continuation, Could have been Excellent

I read this book a while ago and I just started listening to audio books. I won this copy in a giveaway. This is a continuation of P&P with a heavy focus on Georgiana. The narrator did a great job bringing the different characters to life and made a very good story even better.

Great story brought to life

This is one of the better JAFF I've read. I won an audio book copy. Didn't love the reader so much as many of her sentences seemed to end in the same inflection making me think there was something more to come even when there wasn't. Also not a lot of change in the voice of different characters. Most of the time I couldn't really hear the snottiness, anger, aggravation etc of anyone. Everyone was just serene. That being said, it was a pretty well written sequel to P&P. I could envision most of the events as true to JA form. I don't think JA would have made references to the marital bed as this author did but there was nothing graphic.
It would have been a dissatisfying ending if there were not more books planned since everyone is on their way to having their happily ever after but they don't quite reach the HEA moment in this book. Engaged but not married, pregnant but no birth, home from war but no established future etc....
I think my only real complaint in the writing was every time we got descriptions and explanations of naval stuff in letters or in person, the pacing of the story lagged... I got bored with those parts. But they were short lived and the pace picked up again...

For the P & P lover

Good storyline. Narration was somewhat difficult to understand at times. Some parts seemed to rather drag on too long.

First of all, this is a longer than usual P&P variation, I find, but that's okay because I have really enjoyed and savored this book. It is well written, not a lot of action, some angst, no wicked villains at the center - but a mild, elegant continuation of the story of our dear characters' lives. The narrator did a good job on all but I did feel that when it came to Elizabeth Darcy's voice.the narrator could have put more inflection into Elizabeth's voice that would portray her character, wit and personality better. But after listening to a number of P&P variations, I appreciate that this narrator was pleasant to listen to.

An immensely satisfying continuation...

None of the sparkle of the original, especially for Elizabeth, who is such a vivacious character and just isn't here. I appreciated that this story had more of a realistic feel as a continuation (as opposed to a bunch of dramatic but unlikely events) and I enjoyed the growth of Georgiana, Kitty, and Mary, as well as their various experiences of courtship. I appreciated there was an attempt at showing us how E&D navigate married life, but the fade to black closed doors in the beginning made their intimacy feel separate from their relationship, when it's obviously very important to a newly married couple. I'm not saying you need to make it a steamy romance novel, but there's many more references to their intimacy later in the book that were tastefully enough handled so I think this could have been done throughout.

Another major problem was the narrator. The recording itself seems to have problems (I think she bumped the microphone several times and the volume level seems to change throughout) and she cannot seem to do enough different voices, an Irish accent, or sound in any way how you might expect Elizabeth or Darcy to sound. Elizabeth sounds quite old (and again, no sparkle or charm) and Darcy had a... lisp? Detracted from the story, that's all I can say and I'm sorry because I know it's hard work, but this narration just didn't help the story.

All of that said, I did not hate it, but I am not continuing the series, so I think that pretty much sums it up.

Not my favorite

I love the entire series. I listen to it several times through and can't wait for the next one. The author truly understands the characters that Jane Austen wrote and Pride and Prejudice because of that it feels like a true continuation. I love the historical events that are worked in and the authors original characters. She did a brilliant job with Georgiana's suitors.

worth listening to more than once

Absolutely brilliant in every way. My favourite post-P&P story is now a WONDERFUL audiobook! Love it!! The dictation is fabulous, the voices solid, and the British accent MAKES it. Loved it all. Thank you so much!! Now do Book Two, pretty, pretty please!!

PERFECTNESS
