The story itself is good

I think the story in this book is cute and humorous. It all moved rather slowly at times and made my interest wane. In the end it seemed everyone came out okay and it was a happy ever after type of finish. I think I was let down having expected something different.

I was disappointed in the narration. It wasn't what I would describe as bad, but lacked the expression to pull me in. I think I would have enjoyed the e-book more.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this review.

Good

For women writers in the late 1800’s was to use a male’s name. The background of the story I thought was the main interest.
The narration was good. Given ARC for my voluntary review

A Journey worth Taking!

The background of this story is in itself so interesting! The author was actually a woman but used a male pen name, as was the practice and published this story in 1893. What I find so fascinating is the setting in St. Augustine, Florida and the author was from North Carolina. The writing style is definately as some of the English female writers from earlier years!

Our heroine finds herself in a dilemma between two men. One, she cannot resist whenever she is around him and had agreed to elope, but he has no money. The other a rich man her mother wants her to marry, who she likes well enough when she does not see her other suitor! "It is not at all pleasant to want money and not have any."

She engages her young friend to tell her suitor she cannot elope with him..
"The impressionable girl of fifteen with her head full of romances found all of this thrilling beyond expression. A beautiful girl, a worldly mother, two ardent suitors, an elopement planned- what could any romance furnish better?"

The story takes off from there and does not stop until the end!! Fast paced and enchanting is all I can say and the narrator does a great job! Not to be missed!

Happily ever after with a smile!

I loved this book. What a fun story. Just when you might think you know where the author is going to take the story, there’s a whole new twist. I’m still smiling a few days later just thinking how it all worked out.
The reader did a great job of keeping the listener hooked with the story. The characters were well distinguished with different voices so that it was easy to listen and stay immersed in the tale. I couldn’t put it down until the last word was read!

A Comedy of Elopement

This story begins with a favor that shouldn't have been asked . It ended up having unforseen consequences, but in the end, it turned out fine. I enjoyed listening to this story and I'm glad Aimee and Lennox found each other.
