About this listen

For Daly English, life is a series of one disappointment after another. Rather than dealing with the fall-out, she locks herself in her studio and works tirelessly toward completing her art school portfolio. Unfortunately, fate isn't done with Daly quite yet.

Time and time again, a handsome stranger refuses to be ignored, forcing her to come to grips with the loss she's been harboring for years and to trust herself to love again. Their whirlwind romance transports her from the drab Midwest straight to the bold and colorful capitol city of India where a slew of quirky characters cast a stark contrast to her world at home. Will Daly continue to fade into the background of her own life, or will her journey transform her into exactly who she needs to be?

A Colorful Life: Drawn in Broken Crayon weaves a tale of friendship, ambition, and adventure while illustrating that sometimes what we want least is what we need most.

Enlightening!

I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will be watching for this author in the future.

Sad, heartwarming, emotional

Where does A Colorful Life rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the first audiobook that I have listened to, ever!. I enjoyed listening to the narration; I do think I personally may have enjoyed reading the book rather than listening to it. This was a new experience for me. I wish I had a print version so that I could follow along with the narration. Maybe this is something that could be added, like "closed captioning".

Who was your favorite character and why?

Each of the characters had their own story, I guess Daly would be my favorite because she made the greatest transformation.

Which scene was your favorite?

I liked the scene where Daly and her mother were flying in the plane and the emotions they each felt.

Who was the most memorable character of A Colorful Life and why?

I think the young girl, Megan (I think that was her name - I wish there had been a written list of characters).

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the story. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys real-life stories. Not everyone can live "happily ever after". This is real life.

Slow and steady

Although I finished the book glad that I had, it leaves no real imprint on me. The narration was fine and suited the character and I also found her to be quite good with all of the characters. The storyline was a little on the predictable side however which although I sometimes enjoy that, does not lead to my wanting to read the same book twice to see what clues I may have not picked up on the first time around. I feel she did a bit research for the book which I do appreciate and as I did enjoy the listen, I would recommend it to others as well as listen to others of hers. A good rainy day listen.

Loved it!

This was my first audible book. I really enjoyed listening to the story. I was able to visualize the scenes being told in the story of this book. This brought the book to life for me. A wonderful story of a young woman and her mother. Very well written and it was very well narrated. A book that I would highly recommend to others.

Slow Starter - Emotional Read

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The ending. I understand it but I really disliked it. Maybe I am a sucker for a happy ending but this one came out of left field and really made no sense other than the fact that it brought Lane and her daughter closer together.

What could Melissa Storm have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book was also a little slow at the beginning there was no rhyme or reason until about the middle of the book.

Have you listened to any of Ann M. Richardson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't but her intonation and knowledge of words made the books more enjoyable.

Could you see A Colorful Life being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

It could be made into an American/Bollywood movie but the i just can't get around the ending!

What a wonderful story

I absolutely loved this book it was beautifully written. I have almost 400 books in my library and this was one of the best. I don't like to read a book that has cursing through the whole book this wasn't one of those books. I would encourage others to read this book. The narrator was excellent brought each character to life and the India accent was very well done. A Colorful Life

I have to say the ending of this book was not what I was expecting and initially I was a little sad and disappointed. However, by the time I reached the end of the book I could appreciate exactly where it was heading. The loss of loved ones is not the end but as in the book it can be a difficult step in the overall healing process. It was a healing time for Dally and Laine in multiple ways. Definitely worth a read.

Great beginning!

Any additional comments?

I loved this book in the beginning. The main character was strong but sympathetic and all of the supporting cast played their parts well. It really was a great listen. Kudos as well to the narrator. The ending lost me though.

It wasn't a bad ending (it certainly didn't go where I thought it would go) but it wasn't a good ending either. I get the how and the why for the plane ride but instead of walking away feeling good about the book and the characters, I can't help but think it could have ended sooner. Still, it was totally worth the listen!

Not Worth The Effort

Had to stop reading, tried to keep it going but it was just not worth the effort. "I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Blast."
