About this listen

Threatened by French spies, assassins, and calculating suitors, can Lady Henrietta Harcourt trust the infamous rake, Lord Cordelier Rathbourne, with her carefully guarded family secrets?

In his new, undisclosed position as Director of English Intelligence, Cord faces more peril keeping the brilliant Harcourt family of code breakers safe than he did as undercover spy in Napoleonic France.

Cord's passionate attraction for the indomitable Henrietta hasn't diminished in his four years abroad, but neither has Henrietta's memory of his libertine past.

In pursuit of the missing brother, Henrietta and Cord become entangled in a web of international intrigue, danger, and white hot passion.

Men and Women from the class of privilege risk their lives to defend England against the treacherous designs of Napoleon. They confront disaster, scandal, and passion as they pursue their code of honor and love.

The wartime codebreaker is a woman

Henrietta is a strong, solid character burdened by the norms for females of her time. Most of the women in this novel are quite well done. It's the men who could be better portrayed. Lord Rathbourne is certainly no Dalziel, and the Comte is just plain sleazy. Plot is sound.
PH gives much depth to the characters with what she has to work with.

Smart female code breaker during Napoliantic war.

Any additional comments?

This was a fun spunky story set during the Napoliantic Wars. Like in true historical romance fashion, the hero and heroine do not like each other at the beginning and there is a lot of mistrust between them. But they have a physical attraction that can't be denied.

Pearl Hewitt did a great job narrating. She had differing voices for characters young and old, as well as male and female. She also has a way of expressing urgency that many narrators do not accurately portray. Bravo!

Great Book!

Any additional comments?

Great Book!

This is the first book in The Code Breaker Series by Jacki Delecki and narrated by Pearl Hewitt. If you love a great historical romance with mystery and wonderful characters then you need to listen/read this book. Lady Henrietta Harcourt is England’s most intelligence code breaker. Lord Cordelier (Cord) Rathbourne is England’s new Director of Intelligence and is willing to do anything to protect the Harcourt family. When Henrietta’s brother ends up missing, they must work together to find him.

The narrator Pearl Hewitt, did a wonderful job, and was very easy to listen too. The narrator did a fantastic job with the different characters and it was easy to get lost in the story while listening. This is the first time I have listened to this narrator, and I am looking forward to listening to more books by her.

Romance and adventure

If you could sum up A Code of Love in three words, what would they be?

Romance, adventure, characters

What did you like best about this story?

The complex characters that I got to know as the story unfolded. Ms. Delecki provided each character's background clearly so that you could easily understand their motives and their attitudes.

Have you listened to any of Pearl Hewitt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, this was the first audible book that I have listened to narrated by Pearl Hewitt.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me smile often when Henrietta and Cord were verbally dueling and sigh when they finally understood each other.

If you're looking for a dashing historical mystery, this book is the one for you!

Audio Review:
Pearl Hewitt narrates the story with the accent necessary for such a story. She doesn't over-act, but her narration isn't just a straight reading. She gives enough punch to keep readers engaged.

Ordinary story, outstanding performance.

The plot definitely had potentials, but there was nothing about the execution that made it a memorable story. There was hardly any angst and the resolution was too quick and unrealistically easy for my taste.
The performance however was excellent. If it was not because Pearl Hewitt’s exquisite talent in narration, I probably would not have finished this story.
The overall experience was pleasant.

A fun regency romance/spy story

If you’ve listened to books by Jacki Delecki before, how does this one compare?

This is my first Jacki Delecki book but I love regency spy stories and regency romances so this book really appealed to me and it didn't disappoint. I will certainly be checking out the rest of the series.

Which character – as performed by Pearl Hewitt – was your favorite?

Pearl Hewitt did a great job of performing such a variety of characters; male, female, young and old. It's difficult to choose just one character but I did like Henrietta and Lord Rathbourne.

Regency romance with a modern heroine & great plot

I loved this book, mainly because I found the protagonist relatable. I am a little tired if the regency romance genre , but decided to try this one based on reviews. The heroine was a fantastic, smart m, engaging character with her own life and strengths. The storyline kept me engaged throughout the book, and the writing style was fantastic with excellent world building. Good performance as well. Will definitely try more from this author.
