Acerca de esta escucha

Orson Welles' dramatic anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air, infamous for its Halloween broadcast of The War of the Worlds, found a sponsor and became Campbell Playhouse in December 1938. The program continued to feature the charismatic and fiery Welles as both a host and an actor. The great Lionel Barrymore portrayed Ebenezer Scrooge in Campbell Playhouse's annual performance of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.©2006 Radio Spirits Inc. (P)2006 Radio Spirits Inc. This story will never loose its appeal. Christmas is not the same without it. This is a very good dramatization.

...before television. Even the commercials were nostalgic...even if you didn't grow up in that period of time.

Great to hear how stories were told on the radio..

Simply tremendous dramatic reading. Lionel Barrymore was Scrooge. Well worth listening to. Each part was well scripted as based on Dickens' story.

Orson Wells Triumphs Yet Again

Fast forward to 2019, the time of day.... irrelevant. we're roused from our slumber to hear them speak of a time we have forgotten, we travel backward to see what we've known, to the present where we must make a resolution and tomorrow we'll do something about it. A bunch of Scrooges we've been, misers with our wealth of joy. we bottle it up and hope to sell it to the highest bidder so we may count the farthings we've earned but we err..... Until today, when these men of old with a story even older yet new in our own, open our eyes to the dark we've embraced but no more. might the voices of Orson Welles and Lionelle Barrymore be as our scepters, Audible as Campbell soup and the world be as the the house of Cratchit. On the morrow we shall rise to spend what we cannot deplete, in the joy with which we shall bless every neighbor.

So clear and eloquent was their speech, the tones in the voices of yesterday's productions are inspiring and compelling. They call us to look back, to hear a class of men and women who have travelled through time in recording for one purpose..... Enjoy!

Those voices!
