Publisher's summary

“Contract killer” is a fitting job for a vampire, and it suits Liam just fine. Cast down from the wealth and status of the Sky for taking a human lover, Liam lurks in the poor and pollution-choked Gutter, killing to survive. Between his natural strengths and his Cybernetix mods, no mark has ever escaped him.

Liam’s ex-lover Daniel is the heir to Cybernetix - and its greatest threat. Horrified by people less man than machine and the exploitation of Gutter factory workers, he’d rather destroy Cybernetix than inherit it...if his father doesn’t destroy him first.

Years of anger and a heap of mods have kept Daniel and Liam apart. When Liam is hired to slaughter a man in his glass Sky tower, he walks right into a Daniel-shaped trap. Daniel’s father has betrayed them both, and only by working together can Daniel and Liam survive the coming day. They have no reason to trust each other, but as the dawn looms, a bargain that began with the simple urge to live soon reminds them of the love they once shared. Can they find each other again, or will the Cybernetix assassins find them first?

I can see this on Netflix

I felt like I was in an Episode of Black Mirror.
It was very suspenseful, appropriately erotic, and left me wanting more, I just finished this and went a head and got the second bit. There were a few confusing moments that I feel were more to draw out the length of a scene or maybe the book in general that were a bit clumsy, but it wasn’t enough to pull me out completely and it was easy to jump back in. There are essentially only 2 Characters in the story and the situation for each of them is dire and their history with each other only makes things more complicated. Anyway, I really enjoy this, the Narrator did a great job differentiating between the characters with the texture of his voice and I enjoyed listening to him read this. Looking forward to the next book which I’m about to start in a minute after I take a quick break.

Not your traditional vampire story

I really enjoyed this. The story was fast paced, action packed, and quite different from most of the stories involving vampires that I've read. Nick J. Russo was an excellent narrator and I enjoyed his portrayal of Liam and Daniel. I'm looking forward to hearing more from him!

So good!

Great story of betrayal, double-cross, redemption and planning revenge! Oh, and it's got funny moments to complete this well rounded story.
For a short story, it really packed a lot! he story continues in Something New Under the Sun, but this story ends nicely that you hardly realise that it's a soft cliffhanger :)
Liam and Daniel are a great couple and I'm looking forward to listing to the second book.
Nick J Russo was great for this - the only reason he didn't get a 5 star rating is because he mispronounced a few words, jarring me a little (OK, so maybe that's nitpicking). I'd give the narration 4.75 - he is really good, perfect for the 2 MC's.
Highly recommend both the story and narration!
