About this listen

When George Darcy's brother suddenly dies, he finds himself discharged from the Army and in possession of an estate in a terrible state of neglect. Not only has his brother run up considerable gambling debts, he has damaged the family name to where respectable families deny any connection to the Darcy's. To make matters worse, all but three of Pemberley's servants have abandoned the estate due to non payment of salary and abuses. As George Darcy attempts to rectify the shambles of his family home, gossips feast upon the new addition of a beautiful widow as housekeeper. Mrs. Elspeth Reynolds, the wife of one of Darcy's men killed in the American Colonial War, has worked miracles to assist the man who kept her from poverty. In her wisdom, she insists that the only solution is for Darcy to marry. However, when presented with the eligible Anne and Catherine Fitzwilliam, Darcy is unsure if Anne's love is worth the lies and deceit caused by a jealous sister.
