About this listen

Rumor Mora fears two things: hellhounds too strong for him to kill, and failure. Jude Welton has two dreams: for humans to stop killing monsters and for his strange abilities to vanish.

But in no reality should a boy raised to love monsters fall for a boy raised to kill them.

Nyx Llorca keeps two secrets: the moon speaks to her, and she's in love with her best friend. Braeden Tennant wants two things: to get out from his mother's shadow, and to unlearn his colony's darkest secret.

To save everyone they love, they'll both have to commit treason.

During one 27-hour night, these four runaways must stop the war between the monsters and the colonies from becoming a war of extinction - otherwise, the things they fear the most will be all that's left.

What an amazing ride this book was!

Would you listen to 27 Hours again? Why?

I don't usually listen to an audio book more than once, but this was an amazing story full of humor, love, action and so much diversity and acceptance, so I just might!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Rumor and Jude, the perfect couple. Couldn't choose between them--so strong, and passionate and dedicated to doing the right thing.

What about Michael Crouch’s performance did you like?

Have you ever been listening to an audiobook, say, in your car and then you reach your destination? But, because the story is so gripping and because it is being narrated so expertly, you end up just sitting in your car like an idiot, willing to be late for your meeting, but you are simply unable to tear yourself away? Mr. Crouch does this time and again for me. He positively adds gasoline to this story--he makes the characters come to life and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, especially as the tension increased toward the final "war." A master at what he does, Mr. Crouch easily conveyed evil, decency, love, regret, passion and, above all, lust! At the very core, this is a complex character study that pours out of an amazing, gripping, exciting book. Wow. I'd listen to Mr. Crouch read a phone book (if those still existed) because he would have an incredibly unique take on every name. Every character's voice hit the mark and helped draw me into the story. He had me as soon as he introduced his name at the top of the book, and kept me entranced until the very last word. I hope this author uses him again for the inevitable sequel. He was fantastic!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The final action sequences were so gripping that I was on the edge of my seat. Terrific science fiction.

Unanswered Mysteries

I got confused by rapid character switches - if this was a podcast, I am sure I would have loved it more because it deserved to be told with more than one voice (the narrator, or author, seemed only to be invested in Jude and Rumor's romance, with Nyx Llorca & Dahlia close behind and Braeden Tennant and Jude's brother Trick(sp?) being hinted at).

Afraid that the build up to get to the next book - and there obviously not being a next book, fell a bit flat. The mystery of a moon that hums and the native inhabitants and why people from Earth arrived and stayed won't be solved, but I enjoyed this diverse team up to discover something both about themselves and the mother moon. (Tiny bit reminded of Powers That Be but I was hoping that this would be fantasy gargoyles/chimera rather than science fiction aliens). I read this free from Audible Escape (which shuts down Nov 1st).
