Volcanoes erupt in the western part of the United States. Ash spreads to the rest of the country, darkening the sky, gumming engines, disrupting the power grid, grounding airplanes, and the world falls apart. For a single mother and her son, it was not unexpected. If it was not volcanoes, it would have been computer attacks, an invasion by an enemy country, a new virus, or economic collapse. Her father had been a prepper and even though he was dead, his legacy was a shelter under a convenience store in the outskirts of Memphis Tennessee.
On the first day, a stranger waits for the store to open. He has a gun. Things go downhill from there.
