A mysterious invitation to spend Christmas at an English manor home may bring danger...and love?

England, 1851: When Clara Chapman receives an intriguing invitation to spend Christmas at an English manor home, she is hesitant yet feels compelled to attend - for if she remains the duration of the 12 day celebration, she is promised a sum of 1,000 pounds.

But is she walking into danger? It appears so, especially when she comes face to face with one of the other guests - her former fiancé, Benjamin Lane.

Imprisoned unjustly, Ben wants revenge on whoever stole his honor. When he's given the chance to gain his freedom, he jumps at it - and is faced with the anger of the woman he stood up at the altar. Brought together under mysterious circumstances, Clara and Ben discover that what they've been striving for isn't what ultimately matters.

What matters most is what Christmas is all about...love.

Pour a cup of tea and settle in for book 1 of the Once upon a Dickens Christmas series - -a pause-resisting Victorian-era holiday tale by Michelle Griep, a listener and critic favorite.

Delightful Dickens Mystery!

I first read this book when it came out in 2017 and loved it. I recently purchased the Audible version and loved it even more! Though I knew the story, the narrator and mystery drew me right into the story and held me captive until it was finished. Michelle Griep's characters are magnificent! The ending is heart touching. I believe this will become an annual Christmas listen for me.
I highly recommend the book and the audible version.

A clever and ironic Victorian story reminiscent of

I don't know how I feel about 12 Days. The story transports you to the Victorian era and the cruel world it could be. The story has a clever but convoluted plot that is fun but not totally believable. At the heart is a second chance romance between Clara and her previous fiance who was put in prison for supposedly embezzling all her father's fortune and leaving her broken and penniless. He thinks that she betrayed him or at the least did not have faith in him. Lots of misunderstandings. While kept in a strange mansion for the 12 days of Christmas with other odd characters, the truth finally unfolds. This is very much a Christmas tale and leaves you with the warm feeling of a Dickens story in the end.

Weak story

This was not badly written, but it was not well written either. Weak over all. The inability of the reader to pronounce things like, “Pianoforte” correctly was also rough on the ears. Weak characters and weak ending. It is like flat champagne.

I have heard this reader before and she did better on other books.

First book by Griep and probably my last.
