Somewhat Generic Survey of Money-Making Ideas

Somewhat Generic Survey of Money-Making Ideas

I had high hopes for this book when I saw it on a book review site, but unfortunately, I found it very shallow. Now that I think about it, the “101” type of books often tend to be that way, more of a survey of a lot of topics than any sort of in-depth analysis and ideas that will help you apply anything—if its content is meant to be actionable. The author briefly discusses 101 ways to use ChatGPT to make money. Each of the 101 ideas is structured in a similar manner, with key information about the opportunity itself, ways to monetize it, and how to scale it. This sounds great, and it could have been.

However, the information within each topic was very similar and a bit generic. After listening to 50 or so topics, I could just about predict what he would say about the next ones. I also didn't think he tied in the ChatGPT/AI aspect to each concept well. How, specifically, are you supposed to use AI with the idea? It wasn't always clear. In fact, some ideas about how to make money didn't seem like they had much to do with ChatGPT or AI at all. So, the bulk of the book was a bit disappointing. I'll admit I find myself wondering how much of it was written by ChatGPT—and the author admits to using it—without much input from the author, though he proclaims at the beginning that he did augment what ChatGPT gave him.

Frankly, if you wanted to do one of these ideas well and successfully—like fanfiction or travel writing—you would probably be far better served by looking up the idea on some blogs or in a book on Amazon. And the author is a bit misleading in the title by making it seem as though the ideas within this book are all something you can do right now. One thing he states in nearly all ideas is that you need to bring your own knowledge of the topic along with ChatGPT. So if you have no or little knowledge of an idea that interests you, you certainly couldn't jump in with it right now.

I found the narrator of this book problematic. He has a perfectly pleasant voice, but he stops and starts phrases in unusual places that don't seem natural, and he occasionally mispronounces words or leaves in obvious mistakes. Some verbs were pronounced as their noun form and vice versa. One mispronunciation that drove me up a tree while listening to that section—because he said it soooooo many times—was the word “curriculum.” He said it like “cur-RICK-LEE-um.” That's just so wrong! It could have been an understandable mistake to have one mispronunciation, but he mispronounced the same way throughout the entire section!
