背景には人材の獲得競争がグローバル化し、新卒重視、年功序列を前提にした日本型の雇用形態では、海外の優秀な人材を採用しにくくなってしまうという事情がある。さらに、コロナの影響によってリモートワークが進み、数字に表れないもの含めて成果を適切に捉えるマネジメント手法が現場レベルでも求められている。
しかし、この問題意識は今に生まれたことではない。1990年代、バブル崩壊による売上・利益の落ち込みから、それまでの年功序列による賃金の右肩上がりを抑えるべく、多くの企業がアメリカから持ち込まれた「成果主義」を導入した。しかしその試みは長期的なテーマやリスクの高いテーマにチャレンジしなくなるばかりか、株主や消費者、市場を欺く不正が生まれる構造まで作り出してしまう。
ジョブ型雇用も成果をベースにした仕組みである。正しい理解のもとでこの移行を進めなければ、前例と同じ轍を踏むこととなる。
