Story
Midway is the most famous naval battle of the Pacific War, and one of the most mythologized. The traditional view of the battle, popularized in its immediate aftermath and surviving through to the present day, is of a heavily outnumbered American force snatching victory in the face of overwhelming odds. This view is simplistic and, in many respects, wrong. Pacific War expert Mark Stille provides a detailed analysis of this pivotal battle, and argues that Midway was neither a miraculous American victory, nor a product of good fortune.

Story
The Battle of Arnhem is one of the best-known stories in British military history: a daring but thwarted attempt to secure a vital bridgehead across the Rhine in order to end the war before Christmas. It is always written about, with the benefit of unerring 20/20 hindsight, as being doomed to fail, but the men who fought there, men of military legend, didn't know that that was to be their fate. By focusing on the events of one day as they happened through the eyes of the British participants, Al Murray offers a very different perspective to a familiar narrative.

Story
It was 5:30 AM, Saturday, December 16th, 1944. Everything was calm and bitter cold all up and down an 85 mile long front of the Ardennes Forest in southern Belgium. Suddenly, without warning, came the tremendous roar of nearly 2000 German guns. The ground shook ceaselessly for nearly an hour as every caliber of shell the Third Reich possessed was hurled relentlessly at the American lines. This earth shattering blow was the opening salvo in what would become the longest, costliest, and bloodiest battle in the history of the United States' Army. It would forever be known as, The Battle Of The...

Story
War has always led to prisoners. In ancient times, many were turned into slaves by the victorious armies, while in medieval Europe, they were often returned to their families in return for a ransom, leading to fortune or poverty depending upon which side one was on. By the Napoleonic era, as armies grew in size and professionalism, many were kept in camps for the duration of the fighting, their captors not wanting to restore their enemies' manpower while the fate of nations hung in the balance.

Story
Melvin Francis Patterson was a part of the "Texas Army," the Thirty-Sixth Division in WWII. He grew up in Texas and joined the Thirty-Sixth in the National Guard. When the time came the division was sent to North Africa. From there, they invaded Italy and made a name for themselves by slugging it out against the German Army through the mountainous region in the "heel" of Italy then on through Rome. Not long after the Normandy Invasion, the Thirty-Sixth invaded Southern France; then as the German Army retreated toward Germany, the Thirty-Sixth Division raced around it and closed the trap.
