Christina did an excellent job of interpreting each of the character’s voices. However, the story seemed forced with too much filler.

I'm not into this kind of story of young children being abused. I suppose if you are into thrillers like this, the book was ok. The ending was was appropriate though.

Too much fiction detracts from the realities...

Although this book is set in Yellowstone Park and has lots of accurate descriptions of the place, there is also a lot of unlikely fictional description intertwined with the real, which to me was a distraction. I realized that the book is a work of fiction; story line, characters and action, however, the descriptions of the impact of the geology of Yellowstone and its hot springs and geysers is way out of proportion to reality. Chapter 17 is a good example of this; bodies fully "cooked" in minutes and tires melting from steam is pure fantasy: Anyone who has cooked a pot roast knows it takes hours to cook until the flesh separates from the bone; and even when burned, tires don't melt, the rubber just burns.

Actually, I'm hooked on Joe Pickett, and clever C.J. Box always leaves the endings such that you really want to get to the next book in the series.

The writing was good but the story just dragged along seemingly meandering. Not my cup of tea: I didn't finish it even at 1.4 times speed.

So Dirk Pit meets Isaac Bell, so to speak. Pit finds a log written by Bell which is chocked full of danger, violence and strife. If this is what you are looking for in a novel, this one has it in spades. For me it was a bit excessive and over-the-top.

However, Scott Brick, as usual, performed the tale expertly.

Cussler really worked hard to make this a novel in length. Actually could be two boring short stories but with tangential joints, some action and enough fluff he made it a single work.

Not up to the "Sam & Remi" earlier series books...

Even Scott Brick, at his usual best, couldn't make it more than just OK.

The story is a great mystery, actually many mysteries; not just "Who Dun It" but "Who Is It". I can't say much more than that as it would give too much away. The suspense, which runs through the whole story, keeps you enthralled; not the best thing to listen to at night if one is wanting to get a good night's sleep!

The readers are all great but the female voices for men are not that great, so I give an overall of 4 stars...

I am especially fond of multi generation stories especially based on real history, so I found this very much to my liking. The story was captivating, however, it was a bit too much of a infatuation Love Story for me. Also, it was difficult to imagine that the "old woman" would wait until her last moments of life to come out with her full story, especially when it was so fascinating.

Whichever one of the 2 narrators who did Alice was great but Aleena's voice was too enunciated and the "S's" were very strong, which was distracting and it made me want to turn down the Treble control.

Police investigations can be long and with moments of inspiration, so it is with this story. Clues build up slowly surrounded by lots of "fluff"; if the fluff was removed this would be an average short story but instead it was drawn out like the investigation itself. Not really a surprise ending. In addition, the characters were not inspiring enough to be memorable.

The narration was odd, like this was an extended British news report...

I did finish it but it was a push.

The premise and mystery were good as a "who-dun-it", with many possibilities presented. My criticism and disappointment must be a bit vague not to give away the story, however, the idea that the innocent were found guilty so easily was a bit too thin, even with the "evidence" that is laid out. This is especially true of the second murder guilty finding, where there was no alibi even mentioned; surly the accused, who was a working professional, would have been somewhere in the middle of the day with an alibi. Also there was a witness on the phone with the victim at the time of the murder but this was not a factor in the trial? Also the sacrifice by the main character was not very rational. I guess you are supposed to ignore these as trivial points. Actually, I figured out who was really guilty about half way through, so my thought was why didn't the authorities, but I guess that was the whole point of the story.

Finally, the end of the book left you hanging as if there was going to be a squeal, but apparently that is not to be the case. Even with my criticism, the book was a good escape and I would have listened to a squeal.
