Historia
"You are to report to Station X at Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire, in four days time....That is all you need to know." This was the terse telegram hundreds of young women throughout the British Isles received in the spring of 1941, as World War II raged. As they arrived at Station X, a sprawling mansion in a state of disrepair surrounded by Spartan-looking huts with little chimneys coughing out thick smoke—these young people had no idea what kind of work they were stepping into. Who had recommended them? Why had they been chosen? Most would never learn all the answers to these questions.

Amazingly detailed, yet “decipherable” for younger readers
Revisado: 12-24-24
I was amazed at how detailed and accurate Fleming‘s account was in this book. It is a fantastic story for any World War II buffs, and while boys will enjoy reading about the war and the work at Bletchley Park, this book will stand as a beacon for young girls who want to help do their part in intelligence, coding, and deciphering. Especially strong are the sections that explain how to understand codes, ciphers, and how they work. The step-by-step guides offered among the stories will capture the imagination of young readers. Excellent book and narration.

This was a great follow-up to Forever Twelve. I really enjoyed this and appreciated the way things wrapped up- even those I wasn’t convinced had a chance of working out!

Amazing story with the best narration
Revisado: 10-09-24
This is such an inventive story -from the perspective of Johannes - the dog. Eggers’ writing borders on poetic at times, and is filled with such beauty and humor. I can’t imagine a better narration of this book— SO amazing!

Please see my original review. It mistakenly had 5 stars for performance and 1 for story- yikes! If you read what I wrote you’ll know that was definitely supposed to also be a 5!

Excellent story!
Revisado: 06-28-23
Maizy is a very likable and intelligent character. Her story, and the story of her family is interwoven with historical facts about Chinese individuals who came to settle in America. The history was fascinating, and the story would make a great read for kids, because of this background information and the themes of loyalty, friendship, prejudice, and family.

Historia
Five years. That's how long Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, have lived on the road in an old school bus, criss-crossing the nation. It's also how long ago Coyote lost her mom and two sisters in a car crash. Coyote hasn't been home in all that time, but when she learns that the park in her old neighborhood is being demolished - the very same park where she, her mom, and her sisters buried a treasured memory box - she devises an elaborate plan to get her dad to drive 3,600 miles back to Washington state in four days...without him realizing it.

Special Story
Revisado: 09-23-19
Dan Gemeinhart has a way of making characters and their experiences, feelings, and voices real. This has been evident in all of his books, but especially so with Coyote Sunrise. The story is a good one, but the characters almost feel like friends before you finish with this book. Khristine Hvam’s narration was perfect. This is one that will stay with me a long while!

Great mystery and compelling story
Revisado: 07-24-18
This book exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a good mystery, but this also had elements of historical fiction. Johnson addressed the issues of inclusion and acceptance from a variety of perspectives that make this more than just a good story. There is much to learn from in The Parker Inheritance— not only for children, but for adults as well.

Haunting and beautiful
Revisado: 03-09-18
Jason Reynolds is a powerful writer, and hearing him read his own work is a treat. The premise of this story is creative and unexpected. It is poetry in the truest sense of the word.
We should all have and take advantage of the opportunities to glimpse lives different from our own. This book helps to make me a bit more aware of my own misunderstandings and prejudices, and I hope, more empathetic and accepting.
Thank you, Mr. Reynolds.

New York Times best-selling author Gordon Korman harkens back to his No More Dead Dogs days in this stand-alone that takes a tone more serious than you've ever heard from him before. A boy who's been a bully and hanging out with the wrong friends gets a new start after a memory-loss-inducing accident. But can someone really change who he is, or will the old him merely come back over time?

Revisado: 01-19-18
Gordon Korman has written a number of excellent children’s books, but this is likely my favorite so far. The story is compelling, the characters come to feel like people you know. This audio version is very well-done. Easily a 5-Star selection in my opinion!

The marshals are looking for the perfect girl to join a mother, father, and son on the run from the nation's most notorious criminals. After all, the bad guys are searching for a family with one kid, not two, and adding a streetwise girl who knows a little something about hiding things may be just what the marshals need. Nicki swears she can keep the Trevor family safe, but to do so she'll have to dodge hit men, cyberbullies, and the specter of standardized testing, all while maintaining her marshal-mandated B-minus average.

Unique plot line and characters you’ll enjoy knowing
Revisado: 01-14-18
This was a very clever story that was suspenseful, yet endearing; thought-provoking, yet funny. I completely enjoyed the storyline, characters, and audio performance. I can highly recommend this book for middle grade readers! Can’t wait for Burt’s next book!
