Molly Murphy Sullivan's husband, Daniel, a captain in the New York City police force, is stumped. Story
Irish immigrant Molly Murphy and her New York City P.I. business are in the midst of a sweeping influenza epidemic and a fight for women’s suffrage that lands her in jail. Her betrothed, Police Captain Daniel Sullivan, finds her, but he hardly has time to bail her out, what with Chinese gangs battling for control of a thriving opium trade. The only consolation Molly can take from her vexing afternoon in the clink is that it made her some new friends among the Vassar suffragists - and brought her a pair of new cases.

Story
A once-fashionable, now fading resort hotel. A spinster aunt living in an attic. Dirt roads that lead to dead ends. A house full of secrets and old, dusty furnishings, uninhabited for almost half a century. A 12-year-old girl with a passion for double-chocolate ice cream sodas, and decaying lakefronts, and an obsession with the death by drowning of another young girl, 40 years before. Like all important events in the past, there are repercussions and ramifications in the present.

Curious adolescent, Emma Graham

This is a different approach for Martha Grimes. It’s enjoyable to hear a story from the perspective of a 12 year old girl. Emma Graham is a curious straight talking adolescent girl. I’m looking forward to book 2.

It is 1923. Mary Russell Holmes and her husband, the retired Sherlock Holmes, are enjoying the summer together on their Sussex estate when they are visited by an old friend, Miss Dorothy Ruskin, an archeologist just returned from Palestine. She leaves in their protection an ancient manuscript which seems to hint at the possibility that Mary Magdalene was an apostle—an artifact certain to stir up a storm of biblical proportions in the Christian establishment.

Women’s Historical Influence on Religion

Laurie King reveals the importance of women in the early days of faith group formations. She exposes the deliberate oppression and disregard of women in ancient days who clearly placed an extraordinary and pivotal part in the formation and spreading of numerous religious we claim as our choice of worship today. Bravo!

Honor thy Woman

I found this book to be surprisingly progress! King recognizes the value and great contribution women have made sense to beginning of time. From both Jewish and Christian, and other faith traditions, she portrays the woman as strong, capable, and valuable to the progression of society and the quality of life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It doesn't take long to be completely invested in the lives of the characters. It is a story of consequences. I was left questioning who was really the victim.

NOLA... Anything but "Easy"
Reviewed: 09-12-17
I read Out of the Easy in anticipation that my granddaughter might read it in the very near future. I found myself captivated by the story. I was born in the early 50s and grew up in Louisiana. I attended LSU in Baton Rouge. Visiting New Orleans as a child seemed like fun. There was lways a carnival! But as a young adult, attending college, visiting New Orleans exposed the reality of my sheltered childhood. At midnight, children danced in the streets with bottle caps stuck to the bottom of their shoes . Small children, not even tall enough to see over the counter, were being given daiquiris. I was pleased the author did not go into too much detail, too much description , of the potential horroos that face a young girl living in the French quarter. Being too descriptive of the violets would've taken away from the heart of the story. Reading Out of the Easy reminded me that even in the most difficult situations, the darkness of one's childhood, there is always hope, always the opportunity to become more than what one's life might present at a given moment.
