Good plot but slow!!!
Reviewed: 02-18-24
The story moved so slowly that I almost did t finish. Characters were good. Female narrator was excellent but the male narrator had a smarmy voice that did nothing for an excellent male character.

Story
I’m not looking for a hero, and definitely not a fake relationship with my new boss, nightclub owner Dante Fury—over six feet of dark, hot, and dangerous. But he isn’t taking no for an answer. The plan was to run, live under the radar, survive. My life’s been destroyed by some very bad people and everything I know is gone—career, friends, family. I thought I could hide as a bartender at New Orleans’ hottest new club, Ember.

Story
Having a crush on one of your brother’s friends is so cliché. But Reese Woodall isn’t too worried...it’s not as if she’d ever have a chance with the former Delta Force operative. For one thing, he lives in New Mexico, and she’s in Missouri. For another, since Woody and his team chaptered out of the Army several years ago, she hasn’t seen Gus even once. She’s free to lust after him from afar...but with her brother currently missing, Reese has far more important things to worry about.

Great narration word choice not so great.

For the most part, I enjoyed the book. The narrators are two of my favorite, and they made the story enjoyable able to do both male and female voices. The plot was good characters likable. The problem I ran into was I cannot believe that a man who supposedly loves a woman and is making love to her, is going to use the C wordto describe her. As a woman I find that offensive and if my husband ever called me that he would be out the door in a New York minute.

This was a very good story that was totally ruined by the narration. Every time that the narrator would read the words laugh or chuckle he would do this weird huh-huh thing that reminded me of a horror movie. I am not willing to try the next book as it is the same narrator.

Great narration/mixed feelings on story

The narration was great. The first few chapters were good followed by a whole bunch of slow, boring chapters ending with a few good resolution chapters. Lots of repetitive dialogue in the middle section.

First, the narration. Woman was good. Guy was stilted and hard to listen to. Plot. What plot? It weaves and wanders along until you get a good section near the end. Characters are weak and sad. He’s drawing up house plans in his head during s@x? Really? And he only gets back into it when she finishes? You know who the star of this book is? Baxter the dog. Let’s have a book about him!!!

75% of the book is a rehash, of book one
Reviewed: 09-17-23
The narrators are great, and the story after about 70% was really good when it was truly Owen and Maggie”s story. I am not sure why almost 3/4 of the book was a rehash of book one just from a different point of view. The wording and dialogue was almost identical. When you finally get to about 70% the actual story starts. From there on the book is really quite good.

Just excellent
Reviewed: 09-11-23
I really liked this book much better than the first one. I had trouble with the narration in the first one, especially with the female narrator, but this one the female narrator was just perfect. The male narrator was just as good. There was a great deal of plot to the story. Character development was good even though you basically always know how a story is going to end, there were enough plot, twists here and there to make it interesting. This is a solid entry in the resting warrior ranch series.

Sometimes the worst wounds can’t be seen. Lucas Everett knows that firsthand. It's why he and his former Navy SEAL brothers created the Resting Warrior Ranch. Usually, soldiers show up at their door. But this time, it's Evelyn Taylor—a soldier in a very different kind of war.

I absolutely loved this story. What a great tragedy to wonderful plot. Characters were great and the action flowed seamlessly. The male narrator was great but the female narrator was horrible!! Whiny high pitched voice that was almost babyish and hard to listen to.

Story
To most people, Fiona Bristow seems to have an idyllic life - a quaint house on an island off Seattle’s coast, a thriving dog-training school and a challenging volunteer job performing Canine Search and Rescue. But Fiona got to this point by surviving a nightmare: an encounter with the Red Scarf Killer, who shot and killed Fiona’s cop fiancé and his K-9 partner.
