Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Story
It's a fear more paralyzing than falling. More terrifying than absolute darkness. More horrifying than anything you can imagine. It's the one fear you cannot escape, no matter where you run...no matter where you hide. It's the fear of yourself. It's real. It can happen to you. And facing it can be deadly.

I couldn’t stay interested. Not as good as the previous 5 books. John Corey is who he is. You either like him or you don’t. He stays the same. Hopefully book 7 will be better. The ending was anticlimactic.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

I purchased this audiobook years ago. After several chapters I returned for a refund. Long story short, Actually I have more credits than I need each year. I went back and read reviews for this book. Glowing reviews. The best book I ever read, it changed my life for the better, I loved it. I purchased a second time and made it through to the end. This is the worst King I’ve ever listened to. The foul language, children having sex and a disgusting story. I can’t return it but I am doing the next best thing and deleting it from my device.

Joe Talbert, Jr. has never once met his namesake. Now out of college, a cub reporter for the Associated Press in Minneapolis, he stumbles across a story describing the murder of a man named Joseph Talbert in a small town in southern Minnesota. Full of curiosity about whether this man might be his father, Joe is shocked to find that none of the town's residents have much to say about the dead man - other than that his death was long overdue....

I loved the first book about Joe. I was a little nervous about purchasing the sequel. So many mixed reviews.
I am so glad that I took a leap of faith and purchased The Shadows We Hide. The story was well written. I really liked the characters. I don’t make moral judgments. I didn’t think that there was any reason to. Joe was a good guy. His decisions were questionable to some but I didn’t have any issues with these.
This is a fictional story and I am now a solid fan of Allen Eskens. Zack Villa was outstanding as the narrator.
This is one of my favorite audiobooks.

I am so glad that I decided to give this audiobook a try.
I liked the story. I didn’t knit pick the story apart like so many reviews had. I listened and enjoyed. I am a fan of the Nowhere Man series.
Gregg Hurwitz tells a fascinating story. Scott Brick never disappoints.
Bottom line, this is a fictional story, therefore everything doesn’t have to believable.
I am looking forward to book #3 in this series.
