The more Geralt, the better!
Reviewed: 02-01-23
geralt's my favorite character in this and got a lot more of him in this book than in the previous. the journey continues in a engaging way with great writing and narration and performance.
there is one particular point I want to touch on and that is a certain new character gets introduced. at the start I honestly couldn't stand her and most of the time she spoke I just wanted her to shut up despite agreeing with her on several points she makes. I won't spoil with details but eventually you get some insight that turns it all upside down and I understood why she was behaving the way she was and could sympathize and even like her towards the end. I'll say I definitely need to relisten to this audiobook with this new found appreciation of the character.

For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf. Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child. This child has the power to change the world - for good, or for evil.

Interesting to say the least

The narrator was great, i enjoy listening to a good story telling voice and this gentleman has one.
However I did struggle with the writing. I wasnt engaged with it most of the time. For my taste there was a heavy use on adverbs and the dailogue itself I feel could use aome improvement.
Thats not to say it was all like that, because there is enjoyment to be had when the writing was done well.
That being said, i did enjoy the premise and the story itself was engaging enough to keep me going. till the end. But thats just my scoop on it, try it out and see what you think.

my opinion

it was a good book well written and thought out pretty much everything I've heard people praise about I found here. I've always heard the book be described as part Thriller part horror part Adventure part science fiction Etc. and it's all here and an enjoyable read/audio.
that being said I did lose interest with prolong exposition. I have to say Grant's part of the story for me was the most engaging. Malcolm's arguments we're always interesting but I felt like the dialogue rambled on too much and got tired of it.
overall it was a good story but I kind of feel like this is one of the rare moments where the movie did it better. that could be in part that I grew up watching the movies and just now check out the book. that is just my own bias so give it a shot.
