Story
Imagine a 1980s world of sumptuous hotel rooms, restaurants, New York City penthouses, and the powerful men who move easily between these pinnacles of luxury. They are music producers, rock stars, writers, and restaurateurs. They are household names like Billy Joel, Art Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, and Sting. And yet, each man has an entire aspect to his life that he doesn’t talk about publicly—his depression, his rocky marriage, his feelings of shame and failure, his private loss of faith. And now: The phone rings. Imagine the woman who has each of these men at her beck and call.

Elvis Fans Beware
Reviewed: 01-16-25
The truthful docusary tone of this book provides a compelling, tantalizing story. However, Elvis fans beware! The book forces you to see a different side of the King that you will have to reconcile. As a true fan, I wonder if I had been born 20 years earlier, would I have waited at the gates of Graceland as a teenage girl hoping to be invited in?? The author attempts to mask Elvis' behaviors with a psychological diagnosis that some hardcore fans like my mother find acceptable. Honestly, while I enjoy the intellectual struggle of rationalizing my detest for his actions with my idolization of the icon, I wish I had not read this book because some of the unforgettable encounters play through my mind each time I hear an Elvis song. That said, we all love a tragedy, and this book gives details of the tragic life of Elvis in true Greek epic proportion!

LOVE this book! The exquisite tangling of story lines weaves a believable tale of an unbelievable event on a plane with far-reaching effect. The interwoven story of resilience for the unassuming heroine Cherry Lockwood keeps the reader in suspense. Admittedly, following the varied story lines is challenging at first, but even that literary experience punctuates the authentic realization that the people we encounter in one event carry the impact into their own stories, stories we will likely never know, stories that we may even find ourselves playing a brief cameo role that changes the course of the future. This book reminded me to be grateful for the people who play those characters in my own life. This book not only provided hours of entertainment and relaxation but also thought-provoking characterization and plot that will likely creep back into my psyche for years to come.

Story
The women of the Cohen family are in crisis. Triggered by the death of their patriarch, Rudy, the glue that held them all together, everyone’s lives soon take a dramatic turn. Shelly, the younger of the two Cohen sisters, runs off to the West Coast to immerse herself in the emerging (and lucrative) world of technology. Her sister, Nancy, gets married at the age of twenty-one to a traveling salesman with a shadowy lifestyle, while their mother, Frieda, hurls herself into a boozy, troubled existence in Miami, trying to forget the past even as it haunts her.

Interesting technique, reverse foreshadowing, outright stating what happens in the future.

I liked the dislikable characters and could relate to the raw emotion. At times the plot skipped too many details.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.
