I love Stefanie Plum books but I am not sure if a large part of my enjoyment is the plot or the narrator. Lorelei King does so much to make the books come alive and the characters hilarious. Thanks Audible!!

Unable to get past the narrator

I love the Pendergast series but it was painful trying to listen to this latest book. I narrator and sound editing were difficult to get around. Some characters were so muted I needed to turn up the sound when they spoke and then others were so loud the speaker just blasted. I found the narrator acceptable when he was just reading and not trying to do dialogue .

I enjoyed this book tremendously. I am going to play it in the car for our long, long ride this vacation. I think this is the kind of book that adults and children can have fun listening to and will definitely fuel some good discussions. I just hope the two dogs in the car will enjoy our laughter too.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. It wasn't especially well written but the narrator and the storyline made it a very worthwhile book to pass the time while I walked each day. I think the narrator was one of the best I've heard.

All the evidence points to his ex-wife, who has conveniently shot herself.

I thought this was a delightful listen all the way through. I realize that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but if you have a taste for the absurd you should try it. Tuesday Next is one of my favorite series and the Nursery Crimes are just as fun. I eagerly await "The Fourth Bear" which will come out next summer. The narrator was perfect.

Didn't work as an audio book
Reviewed: 10-03-05
I am a big fan of Anna Fields and mystery books. This book wasn't bad but it just seemed too flat as an audio book. I think this was the kind of book that would be better read when one wanted extremely light reading.Like reading a mildly funny sitcom. It wasn't awful but Audible has so many much better books, even in the light mystery catagory that I could not recommend this one.

With nods to O. Henry and Edgar Allan Poe, these beautifully crafted pieces pulse with subtle intrigue and Deaver's incomparable imagination.

The word that comes to mind when I want to recommend this audio listen is fun. The stories are not humurous but very entertaining and don't require a great deal of concentration. A perfect choice when doing chores or errands. None of the stories are very long and I found it easy to pick up where I left off during a day filled with multiple short drives. I enjoy reading books of short stories but this is my first time listening and definitely won't be the last time. The other reviews give you a good idea what the stories are like I just wanted to stress how well they are done.

In response to aces624 I have to say that I feel Scott Brick does a wonderful job with this book. I admit I am a fan of this narrator but " A Still Life of Crows " was the first book I had ever heard him narrate and felt the character of Pendergast was truly an inspired portrayal. The book came from the library and I was disappointed when the Audible version was so different. I was especially pleased that this version is unabridged. I hope Audible purchases the previos versions in unabridged form.
