Story
After a lifetime of rejection, seamstress Evie can't trust Frederic, the crown prince of Lanover - not his words of friendship or the way the warmth in his eyes seems to ask for even more. But when they end up on a tour of his kingdom - one filled with increasing danger - Evie's mistrust might doom them all. In this spin on the classic fairy tale, an ugly duckling must discover her true worth in order to save her kingdom and maybe even find true love.

Excellent story!
Reviewed: 01-04-25
I thought the previous book in the series was my favorite but Melanie Cellier outdid herself with this one! Evie was such a wonderful young woman and I loved that she was from everywhere. She was also so real in that she had hard things in her past that she had to deal with and come through, and I relate so much to that. And even though we only glimpsed Frederic in the previous book, it made me insanely happy that he got his true love and happily ever after with Evie. And Celine is probably my favorite character in this whole series. I cried and laughed in this book so much, especially when it came to Cassian. I hope to see them all in the future!

My heart!

Oh my heart! C. F. E. Black really delivered on The Starlit Prince. I appreciated the angst, the secrets, the hurts, everything. It made the Talia and Rafael seem more real that way. In the jest of everything they still found a way to love each other even though it wasn’t wise. I loved the dual narration as well. The world building in this story was also excellent, and all of the characters were so believable. I can’t wait to read the next book in this world!

My favorite book of the year!
Reviewed: 12-21-24
This was my intro to Callie Thomas and I’m speechless. This has definitely been my favorite book of the year. And the narrator’s voice was beautiful. Fiona, as a FMC, was so relatable and I loved her unwillingness to give up, or even to hurt someone just because others had done so. Her mother sounds like mine, and I felt deeply the same loss she did, as I lost mine too. Zee, was such a complex character full of secrets. I really enjoyed seeing him grow and come out of himself and shed the “monster” and be himself. And how he adores Fiona is just the most romantic thing. Cannot recommend this book enough!

Talk about a story that rips your heart out! This story was so beautifully written and the world building was excellent. Vera and Ash are two complex characters who have so much hurt inside of them, and I really liked how the Labyrinth tore at everyone and made them face everything, even the things they didn’t want to. I was crying at the end, but it was worth it to see them finally get their happily ever after. I hope C. F. E. Black allows us to glimpse into their future at some point.

Story
Ember's defiance has always been a frustration to the rest of her island community. But even she didn't expect to be selected as the next sacrifice, years before another is due. She can't help but wonder if it relates to the strange new ability that's just begun to stir within her. She doesn't intend to go down without a fight—in fact, the chance to confront the monster demanding sacrifices is a more welcome path than the marriage her parents had arranged to a local farmer.

I just simply adore Ember and Haiden. Ember doesn’t give up, and constantly fights for what she believes in, in her own way. I love how she could always see past “the monster” that Haiden was supposed to be. I really enjoyed how their relationship developed, and that they were willing to sacrifice everything for each other. It was a really good story and the twists were excellent!

This was a great sea adventure! I absolutely loved Reva, how she would rather be on the sea and in pants. I 100% relate. And Jareth is to die for, and I understand why he did what he did. Rency was a fun side character. But the best character was Callix and the rest of the baby krakens.

Oh my goodness I absolutely adored this story! The narration was also quite beautiful. Nessa was such a great FMC, and I loved getting the story from her POV. Evander was so charming and I loved what a gentleman he was. It was refreshing to read a story where there wasn’t relational tension but the main issues were outside of them, with the elders and the natural disaster. It made me giggle that the hoard was rocks, and it was really endearing. I hope to see these two again in the future. Or even get a bonus chapter from Evander’s POV.

I simply cannot get enough of these two! Azora and Tarquin are simply the best. I love how at each others throats they were, and how even though they wanted to basically kill each other at every turn, they still fell for each other. The twists and turns at every point had me on the edge of my seat and Mary Mecham has outdone herself once more. And may I just say that Razo is probably my favorite side character ever! The end had me sobbing but I’m glad it turned out happily in the end. And thank you, Mary, for giving us a wonderful epilogue.

This little red riding hood retelling was so so good! Scarlett and Grayson had me howling with laughter, and yes, pun intended. I definitely was not expecting the plot twist at the end, so well done Mary! The narration of the audiobook was excellent as well. I loved how independent Scarlett was and how sarcastic Grayson was, and they just matched so well. I’d love to see them again in the future, even if it’s just a brief cameo.

Holly is no stranger to the night. Her unique position means that the still hours in the darkest parts of the night are when most of her work gets done. It’s not completely silent—she has Parliament to thank for that—but it does get a bit lonely. Not even the letters from her faithful correspondent can completely fill the empty space, and it’s only a matter of time before she loses even those.
