Story
After accepting a generous opportunity to start afresh, Leslie Wills, eagerly begins his journey to the Scottish Highlands of Elphin, a settled village that sits huddled amongst the mountains. The people are welcoming, and the scenery is breathtaking. But deep within its Highland paths, a location rests hidden from the public's eye. An atmospheric location that entices you to learn the truth of its troubled past. But once you bear witness to its sights and sounds, its presences will never allow you to forget.

classic ghost story
Reviewed: 08-27-24
A beautifully written classic ghost story. Great historical context reflecting a dark period of time for so many. If this story was a color it would definitely be grey!
I listened to the audiobook and felt as if I were sitting in a pub listening to this old bloke telling his story. It is definitely a slow burn but the story needed to meander to the place it needed to go.
The narrator did an excellent job, however, the heavy Scottish brogue of "Mr Coull" was, at times, difficult for my Yankee ears to understand.
Overall I am left with all kinds of feelings- something I attribute to a really great story!

When Alex Wilson’s estranged uncle unexpectedly dies, Alex realizes he would do just about anything to make peace with the man who had raised him as his own. He’d even reach out to the dead. But things more dangerous than ghosts haunt his uncle’s broken down trailer and the nearly abandoned one-gas-station town of Fair Hill just beyond. Things that can devour the living and the dead alike, and are all too ready to answer his call.

A surprise here and there

I love Danielle Steele in part because they are so predictably formula but this one had a few surprises. The narrator however, has THE WORST accents!

Story
This powerful novel tells the story of two World War II concentration camp survivors, the life they build together, and the son who faces struggles of his own as a first-generation American determined to be his own person and achieve success. Moving from the ashes of postwar Europe to the Lower East Side of New York to wealth, success, and unlimited luxury, In His Father's Footsteps is a stirring tale of three generations of strong, courageous, and loving people who pay their dues to achieve their goals.

Love the story, not the voices.

Liked everything about it except the voices. A few of the characters were cringe worthy. Narration pace, energy level, intonation etc were good but the voices for the female leads were horrible !
