Story
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

I thought I mostly knew this story, but it was so powerful to listen to and definitely broadened my understanding of the pervasive issue of powerful men getting away with sexual violence and misconduct, and how deep the problems ran at NBC and elsewhere. The Black Cube reporting was fascinating albeit chilling. I highly recommend.

Story
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.

Fascinating - This left me wanting to read and watch everything about The Troubles. The author does a great job of giving an overview of the decades long conflict while also building a developing the key players and plot points similarly to a novel. I am so glad I read this and could easily have listened to hours more.

Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Story
It's no secret that federal agencies are waging a broad global war against terror. But, for the first time, in this memoir, an active Muslim American federal agent reveals his experience infiltrating and bringing down a terror cell in North America. Due to his ongoing work for the FBI, Elnoury writes under a pseudonym. An Arabic-speaking Muslim American, a patriot, a hero: To many Americans, it will be a revelation that he and his team even exist, let alone the vital and dangerous work they do keeping all Americans safe.

Enthralling Account

American Radical mostly focuses on one under case Elnoury worked on. The tale itself is fascinating, but I particularly enjoyed the exploration of the mental fortitude it takes to work undercover long term with monsters who have bastardized your religion, and how such long term engagement allows you to see the layers and humans behind the monstrosities. Interesting and entertaining throughout.

Excellent and moving account of Russian corruption and and violence, and Browders relentless fight for justice for Segei Magnitsky. Browder excells at providing the background and context that led to the rise of the oligarchs and explaining the complicated financial crimes in a way that is very accessible.
I also enjoyed the narration.

The World As It Is us an excellent overview of the Obama presidency. It focuses largely on global issues and foreign policy, but it also gives the reader a chance to know Ben Rhodes, an interesting figure in his own right, and a glimpse of Obama from a more personal vantage point. If you are interested in geopolitics and/or Barack Obama, definitely read/listen to this book.
