Story
In his first major work since The Universal Christ, one of our most prominent spiritual voices offers a wholehearted and hope-filled model for the world today, grounded in the timeless wisdom of the Hebrew prophets. How do we live compassionately in a time of violence and despair? What can we do with our private disappointments and the anger we feel in such an unjust world? In his most personal book yet, Richard Rohr turns to the writings of the Jewish prophets, revealing how some of the lesser-read books of the Bible offer us a crucial path forward today.

What is the Magic Third, and what does it mean for racial harmony? In this provocative new work, Malcolm Gladwell returns to the subject of social epidemics and tipping points, this time with the aim of explaining the dark side of contagious phenomena. Through a series of gripping stories, Gladwell traces the rise of a new and troubling form of social engineering

I love the way Malcom offers us the choice of using the data to tell a story for good or evil. I wish we as humans did not so often tell the evil version because of the personal benefit.
The rest of us can learn from those (they are the few) to create a new overstory.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

Wisdom in a highly engaging package
Reviewed: 10-24-23
My experience with entrepreneurs and venture capitalists hasn’t been good. Too much focus on money, no concerns about people. So I wasn’t all that excited to read this book. I knew nothing about Matt - I don’t watch much TV, and “Shark Tank” never appealed to me.
So why read it? Because Matt messaged me out of the blue on Linked in and encouraged me to read it. And I told him I would.
My core values are courage and kindness. I measure my decisions and success by them. Early in the book I realized that Matt lives those values as well.
If you read just one “personal development” or “business” book this year, it should be “Burn the Boats.”
And Matt? Thank you for reaching out and telling me this was going to be my jam. It very much was. I’ve got a hard cover on the way to put on my bookshelf. Only books that are potentially life changing for folks go on that shelf.

Story
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".
