Story
Have you ever noticed that what is exciting on Monday tends to become boring on Friday? Even passionate relationships, stimulating jobs, and breathtaking works of art lose their sparkle after a while. As easy as it is to stop noticing what is most wonderful in our lives, it’s also possible to stop noticing what is terrible. People get used to dirty air. They become unconcerned by their own misconduct, blind to inequality, and are more liable to believe misinformation than ever before.

Story
More than 1,000 extraordinary Americans share their stories and the wisdom they have gained on living, loving, and finding happiness. After a chance encounter with an extraordinary 90-year-old woman, renowned gerontologist Karl Pillemer began to wonder what older people know about life that the rest of us don't. His quest led him to interview more than one thousand Americans over the age of 65 to seek their counsel on all the big issues- children, marriage, money, career, aging.

Story
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Best Book Since Millionaire Next Door
Reviewed: 10-20-20
Excellent piece on human behavior as it relates to personal as well as business finance and economics. By far the best book I’ve read since The Millionaire next door; and that says a lot because I read that book at least five times. I also really appreciated the author coming clean on his personal nuances relating to his finances - very cool. What a great read and history lesson. I agree with a lot of the concepts in this book so I could be biased. Huge believer in forgoing today’s desires for tomorrow’s gain in the form of compounding. Also love well below my means, and my wife and I both max our 401ks each year (federal max, NOT employer match max).
Looking forward to reading again.

We're so smart...we're Google...blah blah blah
Reviewed: 10-13-16
I somewhat interesting story, but after a while I can't tell what more annoying, Lazlo's voice, or the sense of perfectionism that dominates his tone, as if everything Google does is perfect and right(eous). It remind me of that guy/gal whom can't stop talking about how good they are, while everyone else stands around and metaphorically roles their eyes. I got through a quarter of the book and just didn't care to hear anymore. I could see Lazlo as that hovering parent near the sandbox making sure his kids get the most out of their sandbox experience.
Also a note to authors' who narrate their own audibles- particularly those of the autobiographical nature. I suggest an alternate path. Go with a pro. It just sounds better.

Story
In this book, we travel inside Emily's and Paul's brains as they attempt to sort the vast quantities of information they're presented with, figure out how to prioritize it, organize it, and act on it. Fortunately for Emily and Paul, they're in good hands: David Rock knows how the brain works - and more specifically, how it works in a work setting. Rock shows how it's possible for Emily and Paul, and thus the listener, not only to survive in today's overwhelming work environment but succeed in it - and still feel energized and accomplished at the end of the day.

A must listen...
Reviewed: 07-19-12
Where does Your Brain at Work rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The best. Plan to listen to part 2 several times/year.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Your Brain at Work?
That your conscious mind is a fickle and scarce resource that must be rationed only for the most important tasks. Like a high end Euro sports car, when not properly maintained it will cost you more in the long run.
What about Bob Walter’s performance did you like?
His voice was excellent. Can't believe some people knocked it...to each his own i guess. He really kept me coming back for more. Intelligent voice for intelligent topic.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Just when you thought it was safe to use your brain...
Any additional comments?
Great "read.". Great author. Great narrator.
