Story
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

This book was amazing. The story was so vivid. I laughed, cried and felt so many others emotions. Deeply affecting. The narrator is my all time favorite.

Story
Ruth Wariner was the 39th of her father's 42 children. Growing up on a farm in rural Mexico, where authorities turned a blind eye to the practices of her community, Ruth lives in a ramshackle house without indoor plumbing or electricity. At church, preachers teach that God will punish the wicked by destroying the world and that women can ascend to heaven only by entering into polygamous marriages and giving birth to as many children as possible.

Heart wrenching.

One of the best books I have read on polygamy. This woman was an old soul by the time she was 7. What happened to her is despicable on so many levels. That she made it out and is leading a productive life and shared her story is nothing short of amazing. Thank you Ruth I wish only the best for you.
