Beautiful memoir that helps us understand El Salvador and elsalvadoreños rather than allowing politicians to stereotype and define them as nothing more than gangs.

Post Apartheid novel takes a healing journey through South African history

This is a beautifully written novel that seeks to reconcile and heal generational wounds and trauma between distinct sectors of South African society, as well as between men and women there as they both struggle with these legacies. In the process, I came to understand how apartheid came about in the first place, as part of a complex layered history, in a narrative that ultimately comes to grips with the consequences of colonialism. Highly recommend!

This YA narrative from a Nuyorican/Puerto Rican/Latinx New York/Tampa perspectives post Hurricane Maria destigmatizes mental health struggles of its key character as chapters alternate between her and her love interest as they also navigate the fraught terrain of youth culture, family tensions & loyalties, and self determination. A fast-paced, gripping story with a better ending than the Broadway hit Hadestown.

Compelling and poetic, Rita Moreno’s heartful memoir, in her own voice, recounts Hollywood & and stars participating in the civil rights era, from the perspective of her by turns tough, tragic and tender journey from Juncos, Puerto Rico, to the South Bronx, New York, LA and Berkeley, charting the remarkable career of an Oscar, Emmy, Tony award-winning Latina woman bent on keeping her star shining brightly. There are lessons here for all, especially talented Latinas. She’s earned her Diva status big time.
