Be Patient... It really is worth it

Okay, so I read all the great reviews and all the BLAH reviews and downloaded the book and gave it a shot.... I admit I was almost a BLAH reviewer. It starts slow. I admit, I found at least HALF of this first book in this series very painful. Hours of slow and uninspiring pain. But I will tell you, I'm glad I stuck with it. It has become one of my favorite series. I own hundreds of audible books and burn through their plus catalog and I still come back to Lindon's story.
Will Wight takes his time getting into his stride but once he does he tells a story that makes you laugh (damn near pee worthy on occasion). The characters become fully formed and real. He does not make them perfect, one dimensional ideals of the hero that women swoon over (like far to many authors I have had the displeasure to encounter). Will Wight managed to paint a wide range of characters with distinct personalities, ideas, misconceptions, perspectives, and ways of speaking.... surprisingly well done. His writing combined with Travis Baldree's performance makes the characters come to life (even if it. doesn't feel that way at the beginning of this book.). If you manage to make it through the building of Lindon's character and the drawn out pain that is sacred valley you should be pleasantly surprised.

If you are willing to brave a bit of very slow build you will eventually find that this series as a whole can surprise you. Hell, he managed to make me cry! (not an easy or pretty crier)

It is now July 2022 and I have been waiting on my pre-order of the latest book in this series. ... I get it this Tuesday!

I started with book one and almost gave up on the series. The first book was endless internal monologues that truly were overdone! Repeating over and over again how tough she has to be and how wonderful and perfect her assassin training makes her. It almost made me turn it off every few minutes through the entire book. While this isn’t as bad through the other books, it’s still annoying.
That being said, as the characters develop I got into the story and began enjoying the story. I may not love the writing style completely, but I would recommend the books to someone looking for longer series with stronger character development and enjoy sci-fi fantasy romance.
The lead character has 4 men she loves that love her. If you are looking for monogamy this isn’t for you. And if you’re looking for a hair past porn, this series will disappoint you. It’s more about the story than sex, which is one of the reasons it works. There is sex, it’s just not the reason to listen to it.

Sad cat and bones story ended🥲

I love this series and own all the major books in the night huntress universe from bones and cat to Ian and veritas. I’ve read them all multiple times and always end up coming back. I highly recommend going to the authors page and reading in the recommended order. This is the last of cat and bones books and I’m waiting on the newest book in Ian and veritas story.
I’m not the type to preorder books usually but I’ve done it for 3 books in this series so far(that’s three years in a row. I usually don’t care enough to be so patient with other series. That’s how good the story is)
If you like vampires action humor and sex ( all proportional to an actual plot line!) you should start at the first book and work your way to this one. NOT a stand alone book. You will enjoy it but be very lost.

Great series

This is book 2 of a spin off from a larger series called “Night Huntress”. I recommend reading those first. Jeaniene Frost has built a reality where vampires are real and the world goes on oblivious to it. It’s a fresh view of believable characters that blends action, humor, and sex. I would recommend starting with the night huntress books and as the other books branch off read them in sequence. While I haven’t read most of the short stories, I have read all of the full length books in recommended sequence and I’ve done so multiple times. Very few romance category authors write so well, and with Tavia Gilbert narrating it’s just the cherry on top!

One of my favorites!

I buy a lot of audiobooks and this series is at the top of my list of favorites!
This is a well written, thought out, intricate world of vampires that tells a story of a half-breed vampire that has more real characters than most authors can manage. The characters have more layers and personality than I usually expect from books in this genre or even many top list books. The approach the author took was fresh and the humor had me smiling at many points of the book! I admit I snorted when laughing a few times.

Love the series

I’ve read all the books in this series and wait not so patiently for the next book whenever I finish one. This one did not disappoint. It’s an odd series, admittedly but if you start from book one and have an open mind you get action, sex, humor, and strong character build up. The author makes sure the characters grow like real people and doesn’t just hand out cookie cutter happy ending like many other books out there. It’s a sick and twisted series but well worth the read but none of the books work stand alone. If you read this review without having read any of the series do not start here of with any book but book one. There’s to much you miss and you won’t understand anything that’s going on.

Wanted to enjoy it

I made it into book two trying to give it a chance but the sexuality issues of the main heroin finally ruined it for me. The series had a good foundation but no matter how much I wanted to enjoy the story I just couldnt keep reading.
