A decade ago, Emily Carlino vanished after her car broke down on a California highway. She was presumed to be one of serial killer Ronny Lee Jessup’s victims whose remains were never found. Writer David Thorne still hasn’t recovered from losing the love of his life, or from the guilt of not being there to save her. Then David meets Maddison Sutton, beguiling, playful, and keenly aware of all David has lost. But what really takes his breath away is that everything about Maddison, down to her kisses, is just like Emily.

This book seemed different than other Koontz books. We couldn’t really figure out what was going on until the end . Definitely edge of your seat not knowing where the story was going. Koontz does it again, Narrator was fantastic! How one person can can be so many different voices is amazing.

Story
Raised in the wilderness by her late great-uncle, Vida is a young woman with an almost preternatural affinity for nature, especially for the wolves that also call the forested mountains home. Formed by hard experience, by love and loss, and by the prophecies of a fortuneteller, Vida just wants peace. If only nearby Kettleton County didn’t cast such a dark shadow.

My husband and I listen to books together and we love Dean Koontz books. This one was no exception it kept us on the edge of our seat from beginning to end . It was a bit different kind of book than other Koontz books but still had the Koontz flavor with good and evil fight. Narration was exceptional.

This was a very good book tat keep us not wanting to stop listening when it was time to go to work or get other things done but the story line is disturbing so if you don’t like bad people doing bad things over and over in a book it may not be the book for you . I can’t say more for fear of giving away too much of the book but read the info given about the book before you buy it .

Story
It's 1949. When war veteran Aloysius Archer is released from Carderock Prison, he is sent to Poca City on parole with a short list of dos and a much longer list of don'ts: do report regularly to his parole officer, don't go to bars, certainly don't drink alcohol, do get a job - and don't ever associate with loose women. The small town quickly proves more complicated and dangerous than Archer's years serving in the war or his time in jail.

We listen to every Baldacci book we find and enjoy all of them and no different. The book was a bit different than his usual in the setting. The time period was right after world war 2, so it was fun to listen to the dress and behavior of people during that time. I thought it took a bit longer to get into the “I can’t wIt to see what happens next” than is usually the case in Baldacci’s books but once it started it didn’t let up and we were glued to Audible. Narration was excellent!!,

This was a good book for what it was and kept my husband and myself interested throughout. I did have one major complaint and that was the constant F bombs every sentence. In my opinion they just were not necessary to the story. Also didn’t like the ending but to say more on that would would ruin the story for others.
