Story
Talking with Psychopaths: Letters from Serial Killers is the unique study of criminals in their own words based on bestselling true crime author and criminologist Christopher Berry-Dee's extensive interviews with convicted serial murderers. Step inside the mind of The Genesee River Killer, The Death Row Teddy, The Ice Queen, The Want-ad Killer, The Moors Murderer, The Amityville Horror, The I-95 Killer, and more. This rare collection has Berry-Dee at his steeliest best, exploring the downright creepy correspondence with murderers, serial killers, and psychopaths.

It’s autumn in the town of Harrow, but something besides the season is changing there. Because in that town there is an orchard, and in that orchard, seven most unusual trees. And from those trees grows a new sort of apple: strange, beautiful, with skin so red it’s nearly black. Take a bite of one of these apples, and you will desire only to devour another. And another. You will become stronger. More vital. More yourself, you will believe. But then your appetite for the apples and their peculiar gifts will keep growing—and become darker.

The title story is about a man who goes to hell ala the "Infernal" series.
If you have this book on Kindle, there ARE "other stories" but the audio book has only the title story, even though the cover plainly states "and other stories".
Recommended but don't expect "other stories" if you get the audio book edition.

Very different from each other, they are nonetheless linked by a shared history and a single shattering secret. Now, they have been reunited and are about to embark on a quest that will take them from Washington, D.C., to the graveyards and fleshpots of the Far East to the human jungle of New York.

Wow! What an amazing trip, even though it's at least my fifth reading or listen.
Koko is a suspenseful mystery with many likeable characters, an intricate plot, plenty of twists, and a generous dollop of horror! It's also very long, and it takes a while to get to the horror parts, so be prepared for a varied journey.
Highly recommended, especially in audiobook format!

The body of her child had washed ashore about a mile away, after a possible "coffin birth." It was a sad closure to an exhaustive search, and a grim end to a marriage that by all accounts had appeared to be perfect.

You might as well know this going in: Lawrence Block's new novel is not for everyone. It's recounted in journal form by its protagonist, and begins when he walks into a roadhouse outside of Bakersfield, California, and walks out with a woman. And rapes and murders her. But, um, not in that order. Right. But it's what he does with the rest of his life that's really interesting....
