Story
Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

Diana, a goddess which has to always subordinate herself to her vampires whims and deadly errors. I am done at chapter 30. Again she has to persuade him to trust her by giving her blood to him. I’ve been holding on to see her come in to her power but he has created obstacles all the way. Dump him already!

Smart Romance where opposites attract

I love the pairing of these two characters and the setting in Walken (sp?) is dreamy. The only negative for me was the sophomoric dialogue between two mature adults. Like whether they should call each other boyfriend and girlfriend as one example. As a mature woman those titles are for kids. No need for titles only feelings.

I only wanted to take off a half star for the narration . In general, I like his narration but it seems like he was going just a little too fast. I lowered the speed to .9 and it was perfect.

More of Julia Whelan

The story is outstanding. I cried and I laughed. I contemplated aspects of my own relationships because of the excellent writing. Really an A+ for Taylor Jenkins Reid. The only thing that detracted from the experience was the main narrator. I think her voice was too deep for Evelyn . It was also stilted and her intonation did not fit. I'm not sure why they gave Julia Whelan such an small role. She would have been an excellent Monique or Evelyn.

…the dialogue between Brooks and Abigail. He was pushy and a bully with her at first. I don’t like the machismo. Especially with such a smart and capable woman.
10 stars to Julia Whelan. I’ll listen to any book she narrates!

Story
The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

This book is wonderfully written and performed! I enjoyed it very much! The narrator was superb. Her different character voices were each unique and her inflections were spot on! The story itself was moving and sad and enlightening all at once. Great job to all!

Story
In the murky shadows of an alley lies a female’s severed hand. On the tenement rooftop above is the corpse belonging to that hand, a red-haired woman dressed all in black, the body nearly decapitated. Two strands of silver hair — not human — cling to her body. They are Rizzoli’s only clues, but they’re enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make a startling discovery: This violent death had a chilling prequel.

I love the Tess Gerritsen novels and have read most of them. However, this is the first time that I have listened to any of her books. I have a large audible collection besides this. Anyway, there were times when it sounded like a robot was reading. The inflections were all in the wrong places. Story was good as usual!
