Terrific book. I’ve read numerous books by this author and enjoy his work. I have three perspectives that are different from the author that rubbed me a little the wrong way. None of them major. First, I don’t think John is the best person to narrate his books; rarely the author is the best narrator. So I found that a little distracting. Second, there’s no need to infuse his political beliefs into the text. It just cheapens the work. He only did a little of this, but it was enough to be irritating. And third, I think there was a huge misrepresentation of Alcoholics Anonymous, and the path to recovery. I’m 38 years sober. The author, at least in this text, and many “normies”, seem to think that Alcoholics Anonymous teaches you how not to drink or that the answer to an addiction is just to replace it with something else. I’m certain that is not what Watson counseled him with. There’s just simply no way. AA has nothing to do with not drinking, it has to do with how to live life on life’s terms. How to deal with those difficult situations without picking up. It doesn’t have to be in a group. It can be done in a very tight circle of just a few friends. The cycle of relapse that he has gone through is truly unfortunate, and quite frankly unnecessary. But we all have our own path and I applaud his courage to be candid about it and to pursue what works for him. To accomplish what he did as a professional golfer is extremely difficult and deserves high praise. But what he accomplished as a human being dwarfs his professional career. A big thank you to the author for bringing us a terrific peek behind the curtain of David Feherty. Well done.

It was an excellent peak behind the curtain of ransom wear, and those who combat it. Very informative, well written, I liked it.

Very entertaining. Maarten is an excellent writer, despite his self deprecating comments in the book. I got a good insight into what life would be like on a South Pacific island, and it’s always refreshing to get a new perspective on life’s journey. Well done. I reserve five stars for books that knock my socks off me. This one didn’t do that, but it was still very good.

The most succinct way I can review this book is to say simply that I felt about the entire book the way Jada felt at the end of day two of her 40th birthday celebration.

Tremendous information and provides a light in what has been darkness for so long. My father was an internal medicine doc and I grew up with (mostly) a Western Medicine approach to illness. My mom, his sweet bride, died of Alzheimer's after a brutal 16 years. We do wish we knew this approach fifteen years ago...we (including my doc dad), would have been all in. I read this and also listened on audible. I have sent copies to all my siblings. My older brother, now 70, was diagnosed recently... praying they try. 4 stars and not 5 because the presentation of information straddled the bridge between layman and expert, and that was not always smooth. Us civilian laymen would love an abreviated, basic version to follow. All in all, very thankful and grateful for this book.

It will be given to each of my college age kids as required reading/listening. Reinforces so much of what we have tried to impart about life to them...also makes me even more grateful for my life adventures, values, faith, and relationships. Well done Matthew.
