The go get’em of his voice

I really enjoyed this, and look forward to listening to it again, absent such a great talk while in the university.
The message, in part, of “want,” vs “should,” is a moral imperative. 💕
Great message in a portion of “how to,” manual. I love how he breaks down and builds down the how’s. 💕

Story
Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors - and the items stolen from her family were never recovered. Until now. On the Upper West Side, a recluse is found murdered in his penthouse apartment, alongside two objects of note: a stolen Vermeer painting and a leather suitcase bearing the initials WHL3. For the first time in years, the authorities have a lead - with the suitcase and painting both pointing them toward one man.

Pretentious hero turned hypocrite
Reviewed: 04-05-24
I feel as though this book was about 2 hours too long. Our hero would have found it hypocritical, pretentious, and grading.

Story
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Daniel Silva addles Gabriel Alon with DNC talking points
Reviewed: 11-14-21
Being a Covid shut-in has diminished Daniel Silva’s beloved Gabriel Alon. He's been taken in by much hysteria and misinformation, resulting in a character who is no longer prescient and insightful but rather reflective of the elite (and effete) liberal bubble. hopefully Daniel Silva will be able to reconnect with reality in the post Covid world. is yet to be seen whether Gabriel Alon will recover his previous greatness.

In The Longest War, Peter Bergen offers a comprehensive history of this war and its evolution, from the strategies devised in the wake of the 9/11 attacks to the fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and beyond. Weaving together internal documents from al-Qaeda and the U.S. offices of counterterrorism, first-person interviews with top-level jihadists and senior Washington officials, along with his own experiences on the ground in the Middle East, Bergen balances the accounts of each side.

Just a polemic
Reviewed: 04-01-11
The author bends over backward to place all blame on a still forming administration that had been in office less than 8 months yet absolves the previous administration completely. I should have know that if the New York Times liked it the book was bound to be fatally flawed.
