Story
Avery is no stranger to bullying; not only from within his own home, but from his classmates as well. He assumed once he started college, his peers would mature and his worries would be over, but he couldn't be more wrong; rude remarks and hurtful words turn to physical altercations, and Avery needs to learn to protect himself. Troy, a retired heavyweight boxer, is awestruck when a gorgeous young man enters the gym where he works as a trainer. Troy immediately takes Avery on as a client, and after one lesson, he's drawn to do more than teach and protect him.

This book was very sweet but also very tragic. It had wonderful characters that were perfect for each other despite their differences. It's low steam with no rel angst but lots of drama. I absolutely would have loved a longer book with the relationship developed more but I'm use to this author's tendency to write short stories and this was a great one. The forcus is more on Averys character development and overcoming his horrible past which was definitely achieved by the end.
The narrator did a wonderful job with the narration as always. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully and brought the story to life. He gave all the characters their own distinct voices that suited them all perfectly and made the story easy to follow. It is always a pleasure listening to them narrate this author's stories.

Fabulous start to this series
Reviewed: 08-09-23
This is book 1 in this series but this is a spinoff from the cursed heart series. However, this can be read without having to have read that series. I never read it, nor have I ever read any books with witches and demonds before. I wanted to expand my typical reading choices and I am so happy I started with this. I was sucked me in from the very intense opening scene and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I could not put this down and finished it in one listen. I did guess very early on who the killer was but I didn't even mind. There were enough other plot twists and surprises to keep me entertained. This was a fast paced story full of excitement, sweetness, action and suspense. I loved every minute of it. I was confused for about 2 seconds why they are called both demond and gods but it was quickly explained that it's all about the other persons perception of them, which makes sense.
I absolutely loved both of the main characters. Loki was super productive of Tomasz and was kind of misunderstood. Whereas Tomasz, despite wanting revenge and determined to go on a murder spree, was actually shy and sweet. I absolutely thought that they were a perfect match and had off the charts chemistry. It is a rather slow burn and their relationship was developed nicely.
There was amazing world building. All of the side characters were fantastic. I especially loved the cat. I hope Fenrir is in another book. He seemed spunky. I am looking forward to reading more.
The only negative thing I can say is that the sexy scenes are rushed. Even ones that mention quite kinky elements, were simply glossed over. Not sure what the point is in adding spicey elements and then not utilize that to the fullest to make the book even better. That's why I took a little off the 5 star rating. It definitely could have used more steam.
This was a pleasure to listen to. The narrator did a fantastic job. He had a pleasant reading voice and expressed all the emotions wonderfully, bringing the story to life. He gave distinct voices/accents to all of the characters that suited them perfectly and made the story very easy to follow.

Story
Nothing in my life is really mine. I take care of my mama, work three jobs, I’m there when anyone needs me. Something about the beautiful, lonely man on my mail route interests me. He’s different in my world, where everything’s the same. I think he hates me, but that doesn’t stop me from hand-delivering every package and trying to find ways to make him smile. Then Emerson makes me an offer: He’ll pay me to spend the weekends with him, losing ourselves in each other’s bodies, no feelings or pasts involved.

This was a very heart tugging, emotional story but was also very moving and sweet with mutual hurt/comfort. Beautifully well written with wonderful characters that were well developed and a lovely slow burn romance. Due to their agreement the heat is quick but the relationship is developed at a perfect pace of becoming friends (with benefits) first. I liked that Riley breaks up the serious subject matter and tension with some humor even if it was cheesy, it was deliberate cheeseynsss that you can't help but giggle at. I was sucked in from start to finish. Another great one from Riley.
I am already listening to this right after reading the arc. Just a great a 2nd time and John Solo puts all his emotion into bringing this story to life.

Flying in a floatplane to a tiny town in nowhere, Alaska, was definitely wild. At least, for me. I was a Florida boy, born and raised. But when the website I worked for tasked me with writing an article about something I'd never done before, my stupid mouth had blurted, "I've never been to Alaska!"

With a baseball scholarship to Easton University and awesome family and friends, my life is pretty golden. Except, things have never come together for me in the romance department. Until Kellan Crawford walks onto the field as the team's newest bat boy. Bells and whistles go off in my body, and just like that, I'm totally crushing on a guy for the first time in my life. Too bad he's the coach's son and officially off-limits.

I loved the characters and the couple. It was a sweet self discovery/coming out story and a cute friends to lovers story. Other than that nothing happened so I can't give it 5 stars. I needed a bit more interest grabbing plot.
5 stars to Kale Williams. He is the best and I wish he had done the whole book. I dont understand the hype for Iggy. So the whole overall narration was just ok.

Enjoyably short story

Story and narration both = 4 stars
I really enjoyed this story. I don't usually like LD relationships but this couple really put in the effort and seemed to be together anytime they weren't at work. So if u also avoid LD relationships u should give this book a chance.
I enjoyed the story from start to finish and listened to it all in one evening. It is a short story but at the start they have already been talking on the phone for months and had built a foundation off page so I didn't feel as though the relationship felt rushed. The characters were likeable, though the boy and the grandma were the best. The 2 MCs had good chemistry. It was a sweet story with a little steam and a whole lot of angst and drama to keep things interesting.
I'm not rating it 5 stars because alot of the angst is from miscommunication and assumptions and that is one of my pet peeves but that's just me. This was a new to me author and I enjoyed it and would read them again.
The narrator gave a good performance. He expressed all the emotions wonderfully and brought the story to life. He had a pleasant reading voice and kept a good pace. My only complaint is that he didn't give distinct voices to the 2 main characters. He did do a decent job with the side characters. This was the first time listening to this narrator but I enjoyed it and would listen to them again.

Twenty years ago, there was a terrible accident which put my son in a wheelchair and took the life of the woman whom I thought I’d spend my life with. I had previosly read this book and only rated it 3.5 but after listening to this I had to raise my rating to at least a 4.5. I love this series so much and this story was a great addition. I think I was just so in love with Finn and Harley that I rated these 2 MCs too harsh by comparison. These 2 are both wonderful characters and had amazing chemistry. I loved their story even though it was more serious in tone compared to the others. This was a quick story and of course I always wish these stories were longer but I still loved it. Like the others this was low angst and instalove. This one was also very low heat but it really fit the story and the characters past history.
This narrator is alot fun to listen to. He puts so much emotion into his performance and does various character voices that suit them well. It truly is a pleasure to listen to him bring the story to life.

If this was any other book and an MC was this moody I probably wouldn't like it. In this case given the subject matter I was thoroughly amused from start to finish that Arli was a spot on stereotypical b**chy cat. This was a so sweet hurt/comfort, grumpy/sunshine story.
