Story
Liz Rocher is coming home . . . reluctantly. As a Black woman, Liz doesn’t exactly have fond memories of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white town. But her best friend is getting married, so she braces herself for a weekend of awkward, passive-aggressive reunions. Liz has grown, though; she can handle whatever awaits her. But on the night of the wedding, somewhere between dancing and dessert, the newlyweds’ daughter, Caroline, disappears—and the only thing left behind is a piece of white fabric covered in blood.

Amazingly Horrific, Realistic
Reviewed: 09-30-24
This was a great narrative with a mix of sci-fi, historical atrocities, and the real life fears of POC in America. The author puts on paper the fears, disparities, between groups of POC vs Caucasians vs immigrants. It embodied every fear come true.

This was a phenomenal book! I usually don't listen to much fiction but this blew me out of the water. the narration was beautiful and poetic. The illustration of culture and their lives. It is definitely on par with Sandra Cisneros and Isabel Allende. I was sad when it was over.

Great reminders for Black Women and Black Girls
Reviewed: 01-19-21
I LOVED this book so much that I immediately purchased it in print as well. It's a summary of all of the hard lessons you have learned and continue to learn from being a Black woman. It especially resonated with me because I was raised by a mother who grew up in the Caribbean and exhibited many of the attributes that Trey talks about. I cannot wait to come back to this book over and over again. It makes a great gift to all of the powerhouse-Black women in your life.

Story
If you've wondered how we did not see the economic collapse coming, Ha-Joon Chang knows the answer: We didn't ask what they didn't tell us about capitalism. This is a lighthearted book with a serious purpose: to question the assumptions behind the dogma and sheer hype that the dominant school of neoliberal economists-the apostles of the freemarket-have spun since the Age of Reagan.

This is a great book for someone who doesn't understand the impact Capitalism has on the national and international economy. it dispels many myths that the average person has been told is truth when in reality there is little evidence to support such views. He goes completely against the status quo and economics as we know it.

Story
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

At first I was taken aback by the old man's scratchy voice in the beginning, but I stuck with it and it was definitely worth the wait. I love how the story unfolded and how the main character developed over time. I would have never picked up a book about a circus on my own, but this book had great reviews. You won't be disappointed.

Tiffany can't avoid being funny: it's just who she is. But The Last Black Unicorn is so much more than a side-splittingly hilarious collection of essays - it's a memoir of the struggles of one woman who came from nothing and nowhere. A woman who was able to achieve her dreams by reveling in her pain and awkwardness, showing the world who she really is, and inspiring others through the power of laughter.
