Story
Does your workplace have too few Black people in top jobs? It’s racist. Does the advanced math and science high school in your city have too many Asians? It’s racist. Does your local museum employ too many White women? It’s racist, too. After the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, prestigious American institutions, from the medical profession to the fine arts, pleaded guilty to “systemic racism”.

awful narrator

Heather is always well researched, courageous, stat driven and diverse in her interests and passions
Whoever hired this narrator doesn't know what they're doing
This narrator sounds as tho she is in a race to get thru this book
Her inhale breath is so massive that it's reminiscent of an olympic swimmer at the end of a race. It takes place at the end of every sentence. It's torture to listen to. It's distracting too
This narrator's cadence is horrible
This narrator's inflection is nonexistent

Narration is hurried and a type of monotone that wouldn’t work with any type of content. Sometimes monotone can work. This guys monotone, poor cadence and rushed pace is all bad
The “translator” has basically made a list of quotes and inserted modern terminology where it’s not necessary or desired by the reader
I think the “translator”/author, like the narrator rushed thru his creative process and was content just to be done with it
(Said author seems to spend more time and energy on his Twitter feed than on his art form)

Amazing what humans can endure
Amazing what pain humans can inflict
This book reads like fiction
I enjoyed the narration
I spent most of the book being frustrated on the protagonists behalf. I spent most of the book wanting to throw the towel in on the protagonists situation
(If it had been me)…
What an insight into a state gone mad. Out of control
(Isn’t all of it) bureaucracy. How easy it is to fool people en masses, yet so impossible to make them believe they have been fooled.
If his accounts are true and authentic by even 15%, what a man Victor Herman was

Story
From 1965 to 1995, the Grateful Dead flourished as one of the most beloved, unusual, and accomplished musical entities to ever grace American culture. The creative synchronicity among Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan exploded out of the early 60s roots and folk scene, providing the soundtrack for the Dionysian revels of the counterculture. Dennis McNally, the band's historian and publicist for more than 20 years, takes listeners back through the Dead's history.

I enjoyed this
It was a bit long but it managed to remain interesting
I became a fan of The Dead after Skeleton’s From The Closet:The Best Of The Dead found it’s way into my collection. So I’m no die hard or big fan. When I was a kid I loved Touch of Grey but didn’t really know why because it sounded like old people music to me
I like the players less after listening to this book. They all seem really disappointing even if genius and super talented
Not sure why all the reviews crap on the narrator, I thought he was great

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

I realized how passive, impassioned people can be during covid
I realized how people will sacrifice freedom for promised “safety” during covid
Listening to this book I realized how naive Dr.Einstein was regarding his politics regardless of his genius. Although I highly admire that he put blood, sweat and tears into his political convictions… There were also a couple of glimpses of sage wisdom when he adjusted some of his naive political ideas
I also admire him for being so ahead of his time in how he lived his life. He wasn’t only advanced in his scientific theory
He seems to have been the most laid back high energy man ever
The fact he was such a ladies man grew tiresome instead of titillating or interesting but god bless him he lived the fullest of lives

I’ve enjoyed almost every Woody movie I’ve watched. I’ve only caught from the mid nineties on. I have never gone back in his catalogue to the early movie years. Referring to late seventies thru early nineties.
He has great energy at 84 performing this narration for audible. I had no idea his thick Brooklyn/Jewish Brooklyn accent would drive me totally nuts by the halfway mark. It’s also mixed with mouth full of saliva sounds that old people tend to exhibit thru no fault of their own
Woody is so accomplished and has so many interesting stories. Almost all of them about long ago celebrities and stars.at that most revolve around NYC talent sprinkled with behind the scenes L.A. talent
I enjoy anything NYC and most things movie related, so I appreciated a lot of this book
Unfortunately his incessant need to qualify every woman he has ever spoken to in terms of their looks
“Beautiful” , “hot”, “more than a 10” gets annoying. He compliments their talent also but it’s more than just coming from a different generation. It’s an aging male trying to stay relevant with the boys/fellas. Like he is trying to prove how much testosterone he had Thru his life or how well he capitalized on his fame and fortune
The other annoying aspect of how much commentary on his live life is the fact he has the absolute worst taste in women. Everywoman he spent more than one date with was totally certifiable
Now I too am going to be disrespectful to woman with my next comment. You look up some of these woman he drools all over in this book and you find they were better suited for radio than the movies after googling them. It’s all subjective I know but he spends so much time talking about how “hot” this one was and how “beautiful” that one was
I wish his self deprecation extended to his physical looks. He needs to know he was stuck with homely psychos because he caught them with fame, power and money. Those are very relevant attributes when chasing females. He seems to think he caught his fish with determination and humor.
I’m so far out out of line with my commentary here but I just finished this marathon of woody writing about every woman he ever dated or slept with. His taste in woman is so horrible it was torture to hear about
Godbless him, He had his fair share of trial and tribulation. He is also the American ideal of ambition, hard work, fortitude and perseverance. He is an extremely accomplished creative in multiple mediums and is arguably one of the most accomplished not only of his generation but of the 20th century
Unfortunately, I like him less not more after this book

The Left used to be the party of the hippies and the free spirits. Now it’s home to woke scolds and humorless idealogues. The New Puritans can judge a person’s moral character by their clothes, Netflix queue, fast food favorites, the sports they watch, and the company they keep. No choice is neutral, no sphere is private. Not since the Puritans has a political movement wanted so much power over your thoughts, hobbies, and preferences every minute of your day. In the process, they are sucking the joy out of life.

Sing songy narration by a poof makes this a tough listen. Speeding up slowing down. Inflection of his voice changing sentence to sentence. I think he lost track that this is a book and not a Broadway play
It doesn’t help that every other paragraph is jumping from century to century
Even the authors ‘humor’ is grating and annoying
The content in theory should be interesting for me as I’m interested in how our world has come to this moment in time. I’m also a fan of reading history. This jumps around too much
I also have this feeling all thru out that the author has an unjustified sense of self importance that makes him come off as a confidence man

Conspiracies didn’t always seem so clear and present. It used to be that people with tin-foil hats who were convinced of secret messages coming through the radio were easily disregarded as kooks and looney tunes. But these days, conspiracies feel alive and well. From internet rumors to lying politicians to the tinderbox that is social media, it’s become clear that a vast swath of people believe really bonkers things. Podcast hosts Ben Bowlin, Matthew Frederick, & Noel Brown discern conspiracy fact from fiction regarding "stuff" the government doesn’t want you to know.

It’s obvious Mr.Kennedy should be listened to, just by how hard they try to shut him up and the lengths they’ll go to- to vilify him. He should be listened to based on his relevant life experience not to mention his unique insight as a Kennedy into power brokers. He should be listened to because he cites his sources and names the studies he refers to. He is willing to risk his life speaking truth to power… He deserves a listen
This book really lets us know how perverse the people looking out for us are
