Story
Minalan the Spellmonger has come a long way since he woke up to a goblin invasion almost a decade ago. Since then, he has built cities and mighty armies, invented new enchantments, and pioneered entirely new fields of magic. Now that the Witch Queen of Darkfaller has taken over one of the most powerful castles in the center of the kingdom, he has to marshal all his resources—political, military, and arcane—to try to drive her from the strategic and symbolically important stronghold.

The only thing I disliked about this one was how quickly it ended. Very excited to spend more time with Minalin and very much looking forward to what comes next!

One of the problems I have with many fantasy series is how the story always stops when the hero is in his/her prime. You never get a follow-up on their old aged exploits, but here we get to see our main characters from youth until far into adulthood and for me that's a neat change of pace.
The only downside is how often the POV tended to switch around as soon as something got really interesting but overall a great story!

Story
Opposites attack! When the Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger’s two apprentices, Tyndal and Rondal, were knighted after the battle of Timberwatch, they were dubbed Knights Magi: A new class of nobility for distinguished High Magi. Designed to combine the pursuit of arcane knowledge with the noble aspirations of chivalry, it elevated them above common warmage...in theory. The problem was they had no idea how to be a Knight Mage...because no one had ever been one before.

Awesome installment in the series!

I was a big fan of snarky teenage apprentice Tyndall from the beginning of the series and was excited to see Knights Magi specifically followed Tyndall's journey. The first part of the book did a great job of exposing his character flaws and also did a nice job of exposing an interesting side of his fellow apprentice. Throughout the novel we get to know both apprentices pretty intimately, which added a lot of depth to the characters previously only seen from externally from Min's POV.
Most importantly, Mancour realistically portrays the workings of the mind of the teenage boy. Often times in fantasy, I feel like we see idealized versions of the teenager, where every average young peasant boy becomes the savior of mankind. However, Tyndal and Rondal are not developed in a tropey, Mary Sue way like most of these young heroes. It's a natural growth and transition as the boys grow into manhood. There is jealousy, rivalry, hatred, kinship, brotherly love, self revelation, and respect for one another that there would be in a real life relationship. All of this helps create characters that are relatable and makes the series more 3 dimensional.
Highly recommended!

Story
The goblin invasion is on...and a wizard's work is never done! After facing a hopeless siege, an implacable foe, and an impossible escape, you would think that Minalan the Spellmonger would be able to rest - but the armies of the undead goblin shaman Shereul (known as the Dead God to his human victims) are rolling over the Western reaches of the rustic Duchy of Alshar and is headed toward the heart of the Duchy of Castal. Thousands are fleeing for their lives as hordes of goblins pour out of Boval Vale and devastate the rugged fiefs of the Alshari Wilderlands.

After finishing the first book in the series I was moderately satisfied at best. It was a good time filler, but I do agree with all of the negatives from the reviews (all the lusty peasants fawn over the main character and he basically Mary Sued his was through the first novel). So, I didn't think I would continue the series. However, it wasn't awful so I thought to give Warmage a shot and wow! So glad I did.
Warmage makes up for the shortcomings or Spellmonger. The action scenes are not as tedious, there is character development, new plot lines are woven, and the entire narration dropped the "This happened, then this, then this" style from the first book. While the framed story kind of threw me off in the first half of the book, it also added some suspense to keep driving the plot.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone who disliked the first.

Best book in the series!

After the low speed middle books left much to be desired and the last few books grew more and more exciting, A Memory of Light was the perfect climactic ending to the Wheel of Time series and a glorious tribute to Robert Jordan's memory. The majority of the plot lines are wrapped up with main and side characters, even tying up some of those threads that may have been forgotten. Happiness, sadness, and a satisfying ending all in one! Highly recommended!
