Story
Gayle was the beauty who believed that a man could make her life complete. Patricia was the intellectual who thought that rising to the top of her career would make her happy. And then there is Marcus Carter, who has been linked to both Gayle and Pat since the tragedy that occurred when they were all children. Can either one save him from himself? Can friends survive a love that comes between them? Each of them gets what she wants, but no one counts on the price they have to pay.

EXCELLENT, but...

This book...this story is one of the best I have listened to in a while. I LOVED the friendship(s), the back stories and being able to experience their lives throughout the course of so many years. And the ending...WHEW. HOWEVER, had it not been for everything I just said, I would have discontinued listening very early on. The narrator...NO...JUST NO! She would have been bareabl had there not been male characters in the story. it was SO DISTRACTING! I don't even understand what angle she was going for when reading the male characters words. I'm SO glad I continued listening...5 stars for the authors, the story and the characters. But the narrator should NEVER read a male part again.

Great story - NOT SO GREAT narrator

First time I've felt compelled to write a review. This was a really good, well written storyline, but the narrator was EXTREMELY distracting. She placed pauses, comma's and periods where they didn't belong and DIDN'T use them when she should have! Every other sentence I had to replay in my head the way the characters SHOULD have said it, so that I could understand properly follow along. It reminded me if being in elementary school and having to sit through the awkward moments when a kid who couldn't read well, had to read a paragraph out loud. I can't believe her performance was approved for release. Ms. Billingsley produces fabulous work and doesn't deserve to have it performed so poorly.

Story
Curtis Black is no stranger to scandal. Throughout the decades, he has done much in the public eye, both good and evil. But what most people don't realize is that Curtis has been hiding a horrific childhood that has affected him in countless, unspeakable ways. His buried past returns in an unwelcome visit when his estranged sister becomes alarmingly ill and his youngest child, 12-year-old Curtina, becomes the kind of problem daughter that he never imagined she could be. This is only the beginning.

I was sorry to have it end. Such a compelling, relatable story. i always wanted to kniw what life was really like living in the White House. No one talks about going barefoot or wearing shorts and flip flops or dogs pooping! I wanted to hear more! Michelle is EVERY WOMAN! We all have it inside of us to BECOME as many things as we want! Thank you for the message FLOTUS!
