Warm & lovely
Reviewed: 03-08-25
Somehow the beginning of the story kind of annoyed me with this emphasis on only blond haired women with blue eyes are beautiful; however, when you get past that, it’s a real treat, under appreciated, never discussed, probably not a best seller, but so worth a try. It’s a triumph of love, acceptance and healing.

One two punch.

The combination of romantic stories that pull on all your emotions and the stories being narrated by Roslyn Landor is a winner. Landor can make a boring book exciting, but in this case, she doesn’t have to boost the book with her story telling abilities. The book is wonderful and so is the narrator.

Story
Life has taught Lucas Kendrick, duke of Harndon, that a heart is a decided liability. Betrayed by his elder brother, rejected by his fiancée, banished by his father, and shunned by his mother, Luke fled to Paris, where he became the most sought-after bachelor in fashionable society. Ten years later fate has brought him back home to England as head of the family who rejected him. Unwilling as he is to be involved with them, he must assume responsibility for his younger siblings, the family estate he once loved - and the succession.

What a wonderful story ready by my favorite narrator. The characters are rich. The story dramatic. You will stay to the very last minute. Mary Balogh is my new favorite. Part II in the series is just as essential as number I.

Well told story written in a manner most English speakers can easily understand and relate to. Written more like a story than a thesis which adds color and perspective. The mention of his very real weaknesses and difficulties makes him that much more real. Well documented and comprehensive.

It is the supreme authority in Islam and the living source of all Islamic teaching; it is a sacred text and a book of guidance that sets out the creed, rituals, ethics, and laws of the Islamic religion. It has been one of the most influential books in the history of literature. Recognized as the greatest literary masterpiece in Arabic, it has nevertheless remained difficult to understand in its English translations.

Definitely better than the translation by Abdullah Yousef Ali. The previous translation is beautiful to the ears, but the use of old English really made it difficult to understand. Compared to the Bible, it’s the difference of using the RSV over than King James Version. Beautifully translated with modern use of English. Valuable for Muslims and curious non-Muslims.

She really speaks to some of the feelings and challenges we women face trying to do it all. If you’re a mom, get it. If you’re a career woman, definitely get it. And if you’re trying to make sense of where we find ourselves today, you need this book.
