Excellent Anthology

I loved all the stories. Well worth the credit I spent on it. Will probably check out the other books in this series.
The person claiming there was incestuous rape in the first story lied. Don't know why they lied and there's no way to report their review for being a fake review.

Story
Kidnapped at an early age, Ansset has been raised in isolation at a mystical retreat called the Songhouse. His life is filled with music, and having only songs for companions, he develops a voice that is unlike any other. But Ansset's voice is both a blessing and a curse, for it reflects all the hopes and fears of his audience, and, by magnifying their emotions, can be used either to heal or to destroy.

Almost didn't finish

Card does an incredible job of making you care about the characters. So much so, that I almost didn't finish the story because I was mad at one of the characters for how they treated Anset.
It's a beautiful story and I highly recommend it.

Story
It is a society that is, officially, a paradise. Superior to the decadent West, Stalin's Soviet Union is a haven for its citizens, providing for all of their needs: education, health care, security. In exchange, all that is required is their hard work, and their loyalty and faith to the Soviet State. But now a murderer is on the loose.

Bad Writing
Reviewed: 06-29-20
The author had a good story to tell, but did it badly. This could have been so much better if the author had done a better job of dropping clues about the identity of the killer, throughout the book. As it stands, the author literally had to tell the audience who the killer was, rather than let the audience figure it out. The story was just too big for an author that obviously doesn't have much skill at story telling. He should have shelved this idea until he was a better writer.

But Step's new job with a software company turns out to be a snake pit, and 8-year-old Stevie's school is worse. I cried
Reviewed: 02-08-20
I went into this book not knowing a thing about it other than the summary. It sounded like a slice of life story with a small town murder mystery. Then I got to the last hour. I hated Card for writing this while at the same time praising him for how beautiful it is. I cried. This is a story that needs to be read or listened to. You won't regret it.

Story
For the first time ever, the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has produced an audio recording of all of Lovecraft's stories. These are not dramatizations like our Dark Adventure Radio Theatre - rather, this is an audiobook of the original stories, in all-new, never-before-heard recordings made by the HPLHS' own Andrew Leman and Sean Branney exclusively for this collection. This collection spans his entire career from his earliest surviving works of childhood to stories completed shortly before his death. All tales include original music by HPLHS composer Troy Sterling Nies.

Terrible Narration
Reviewed: 07-22-19
I can't get past the narration. It's horrible. Audio books are dramatic readings, not just reading the words on the page in whatever weird cadence you think sounds creepy. It takes you out of the story. This is worse than the Inheritance Cycle narration.
