Historia
In July 1913, 25-year-old Annie Clements had seen enough of the world to know that it was unfair. She’s spent her whole life in the copper-mining town of Calumet, Michigan, where men risk their lives for meager salaries - and had barely enough to put food on the table and clothes on their backs. The women labor in the houses of the elite and send their husbands and sons deep underground each day. When Annie decides to stand up for herself and the entire town of Calumet, nearly everyone believes she may have taken on more than she is prepared to handle.

Maybe the reader should have visited Michigan
Revisado: 08-27-19
My ears! The constant mispronunciation of “Houghton,” “pasties,” and “Mackinac” is making me grimace. The story is compelling, but the reader and the producers really should have familiarized themselves with the regional lingo. The errors mar the performance.

My favorite guilty pleasure
Revisado: 04-11-18
I am a listener of mostly literary fiction and non fiction. But sometimes, you need some trash. I think I have listened to this book a dozen tomes. When I need a lift, when I have to tackle a particularly depressing task, this is the listen. The reader is phenomenal.

Remarkable reader, great book
Revisado: 04-29-13
I think I might listen to this book again just to hear Kate Forbes read it. She's THAT good. And the characters in this novel will make your heart bleed and then smile and then bleed again. I love epistolary novels, and this is one to savor.

As trite as trite can be
Revisado: 10-28-11
I have given up on an audiobook only two or three times out of hundreds downloaded. This was one. This book is so full of sterotype and cliche that it made me gag.
