GREAT family book!
Reviewed: 07-05-21
We were completely new to this series, and have now purchased the series. We listened to this on a long family road trip with kids ages 4-12, plus adults. We all enjoyed it equally. Great narration, great values, great story.

Story
Sophia's earliest memory is of drowning. She remembers the darkness of the water and the briny taste as it filled her throat, the sensation of going under. She remembers hands pulling her back to safety. But she doesn't remember who saved her that day. The day her mother died - or so she has always believed. A mysterious call suggesting that her mother might still be alive has lured Sophia to the island of Bitter Rock, hunting for answers as elusive as her own past. But the more Sophia uncovers, the clearer it is that her mother's disappearance is just one of many.

Story
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

Amazed it’s rated as high as it is

I consider myself fairly middle ground politically, but this is almost laughably one-sided. I couldn’t make it through the book.
Narrator was excellent, but his female voices were shrill and just off for me. Gave him 5 stars because his male voices were all amazing.
Can’t say much without spoilers, but character sure “moves on” pretty quick from life changing trauma.
Got a ways in, but finally gave up. Never stopped early with an Audible book. Even ones I haven’t been the biggest fan of.
