After 33 years of therapy, I wasn’t sure how much I would get out of this book, but it certainly was life-changing for me. I was able to finally unearth a pattern of avoidance of commitment due to early trauma with which I was not given the tools to process. I am eternally grateful for this book and the authors.

I got much more out of this book than I expected. I can now see the multiple ways early abuse affected my life. LOTS of good info. This book is for those a good way along the healing path; those just starting out may be overwhemed. Try slowing down to .8 or .9 speed - narrator’s voice at regular speed was a bit triggering for me.

I was reluctant to read this book, afraid that it would be heartbreaking and depressing. It was nothing of the sort. The profound love of a man for his son and his country was expressed so beautifully and eloquently, that I feel as if I am a better person for having read it. I, too, am a proud Marylander, now even more proud knowing I share this state with Congressman Raskin. He is a gentleman.

Susan Forward’s book, Toxic Parents, started me on my healing journey 30 years ago. This book, Mothers Who Can’t Love, has helped me as much as the previous book, and I am eternally grateful. While I appreciate the author’s desire to narrate her own work, it sounded like Betty White was narrating. It made the work feel outdated and I was disappointed to be distracted by it. Great content though!
