Story
Due to the terms of an estranged relative's will, the duke of Silkridge must revisit the cold, unforgiving mountains where he lost everything he once loved. As soon as he restores his family legacy, he'll return to London where he belongs. He definitely won't rekindle the forbidden spark crackling between him and the irresistible spitfire he'd left behind.

Didn’t enjoy this one much
Reviewed: 12-01-22
I’ve listened to other books by this author and enjoyed them, this one not so much. There was no chemistry or real background story to get me interested in the couple. And the narrator’s high pitched voice was like nails on a chalkboard. Her lower voice was great.

Did not like this one.

I don’t mind cheesy hallmark movies, but did not enjoy this at all. I don’t know if it was the writing or the narrating but all of the adults seemed like they were 12. There was no chemistry between the main characters either.

Didn’t love
Reviewed: 01-16-21
I’ve listened to a few Sherry Thomas books, this was by far my least favorite. I don’t get food as sensual. I also really don’t like when a relationship is developed in a book only physically. I can’t buy in and care enough, when that’s the only thing the 2 have. And that’s exactly what this book was.

Not good

This book could have been a short, cute story with more detail. That would’ve made the ending slightly more believable and enjoyable.
The narration was very unprofessional sounding. Also, I’m not sure why a story that takes place in New England would be narrated in a very thick southern accent.

Story
Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn't plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn't spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success. From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there's also an undeniable chemistry.

Ugh

So much of this I did not like. Since graduating from middle school, I haven’t found ridiculous sexual innuendo funny. Subtlety is so much sexier.
Also, the man who voiced Ronan was not my favorite. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have never heard an accent like that, it was almost like Johnny Depp’s Willy Wonka...super annoying. The leads lacked chemistry, I didn’t even care if they got together.

This was a sexy story for sure. But there were definitely things I didn’t like. Maybe I’m old, but do we really need to hear the F word so many times in one book. I just can’t stand that word. Also, the male lead is a total jerk at times and for some reason that’s attractive. I don’t get that at all.
